The title "director or football" varies so much between clubs that it doesn't always mean the same thing. Les Reed's job at Saints is to oversee The Academy, Scouting, Sports Medicine and Equipment Procurement. To some that would be the role of a director of football even though Reed doesn't have it as a job title nor involvement with the first team.

What has largely been overly looked in this thread so far... If that is true, then Markus has left the club with access to a huge amount of funding. The conveyor belt at Saints is very much on the move again after a big recruitment drive in the summer. The list of players in my previous post shows some of the current youth players, with an ever increasing number of them representing their countries at international level. How many clubs have anything comparable to this in terms of support staff in place for youth players? I predict with the structures in place and improvements in youth coaching and recruitment, along with (hopefully) the upgrade at Staplewood to the buildings, that Saints will be churning good players out even more so than previously.
