  1. The two are intertwined and with new UEFA rules will be even more so in future years. If Liebherr really plans to back the club maybe he will do both without the club incurring debt.
  2. I goto St Mary's to enjoy watching a game of football.
  3. Expansion or relocation is definitely being planned for.
  4. New UEFA rules mean the clubs with the biggest turnovers will be those likely to be challenging. There is lots missing from St Mary's in terms of potential revenue streams. Just compare it to the Emirates or Tottenham proposed stadium. Something like this would create alot of revenue...! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXm2XuXPk6g
  5. St Mary's was never "state of the art" no matter what Rupert Lowe said. Not even in 2001 when constructed. Let alone today! It is also too small for a Saints team with investment and ambition behind them in the Premiership. Saints have never had good investment behind them. If they invest in the team whilst in the Prem it will attract fans. Even with Lowe in charge and not investing in the team, the club was averaging 30k. You also missed the rest of my post... It is sometimes much easier to start from scratch than to make compromises due to what is already in place.
  6. I've got to say I'd prefer a high class stadium at Jackson's farm designed for purpose - rather than bolting on an expansion to an already 10 year old St Mary's where compromises would be made in the design.
  7. If it is true and they want to build a large stadium in the middle of nowhere, it'll be packed with food/drink outlets and possibly associated leisure businesses surrounding the site.
  8. Your club has reached a new low when Gareth Southgate says this of you... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6204164,00.html Admittedly Sky have possibly taken his quotes a little out of context.
  9. The location of a stadium in a city centre or the outskirts has no bearing on this. That is entirely down to the design of the stadium and the fans present at the game.
  10. A stadium would take years to get through development and construction stages. By the time it is constructed Saints may be in the Premiership. If you only start planning for it once you get in the Premiership then you would have to make do with a 32k stadium in the Premiership for a number of years during construction and planning stages. With the new rules about spending from UEFA, the more money Saint's generate the better the team on the pitch will be. A new stadium would help Saints stay there, especially if Liebherr pays for it like the Brighton chairman has with Falmer.
  11. One thing is 100% certain, Cortese wants to either extend St Mary's OR relocate somewhere else. He admitted as such in interview.
  12. A wink is always required on this forum as you can never tell when someone is serious or not.
  13. Only an idiot would believe the rumours. Which some in the press did! As they would be ignoring the ash cloud disruption at the time and air space closures predicted over Switzerland at the time Liebherr would want to be heading back.
  14. Apply for permission to the Premier league to sell players outside the transfer window? How do you make teams buy your players? Reduce the asking price, some money is better than no money for the creditors you are meant to be representing I know how about cancelling contracts? Darn that means I have to pay compensation so not actually gaining anything there at all. You save money by not having to pay bonuses and may come to an agreement at a lower value than the contract. Also sending loan players back and not signing new ones with loan fees. I know I will make staff redundant, done that (yes I know I have kept on Storrie but how do I know what termination clauses are in his contract). I'm sure Peter Storrie wasn't needed to explain clauses, it would be written down on paper and surely AA can't he?
  15. He was referring to Lampitt, not Storrie or AA. I'm sure most Pompey fans don't mind Lampitt on paper. I've seen a number that think AA is doing a good job (although a minority). Of course none want Storrie at the club. Even if he were referring to Storrie, the original question was about what the admin team have done to reduce costs, not what the fans want.
  16. Apart from the huge hints in industry publications that HMRC will reject the CVA?
  17. Why is it a **** idea? Secondly it is just rumours at the moment.
  18. New manager to be announced on Thursday afternoon. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/Pompey-close-to-unveiling-new.6359873.jp (although it is dependent on the CVA so most likely won't happen)
  19. So not really "news" then? Probe him more!
  20. How does he know what the club is planning?
  21. Where did this story originate in the office? They would find it hard to get planning permission for that site wouldn't they? It does however fit in with the interview he gave the BBC where he said stadium relocation was a possibility. I think he is right, St Mary's long term isn't big enough or good enough and it also has traffic problems. It may be easier to start from scratch than to improve St Mary's to an equal level to a new stadium. Listen from 36:40 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8565161.stm
  22. Still doesn't seem to work. Does it for everyone else?
  23. It seems you can no longer go straight to the latest post in a thread. It just goes to the opening post and you have to scroll down.
  24. Phew its still here.
