What if any new 1st choice keeper we get is already relatively young, say 22 to 26 years old?

He isn't a great first choice keeper, but back-up keepers don't need to be amazing. Hopefully any new keeper we get next summer will be to go straight in as first choice.

Why? It probably means he'll be back-up next season to any new keeper.

We play a system with 2 strikers, we don't really need more than 4 dedicated strikers for that. If anything the squad is too bloated with Long and Obafemi still here. Armstrong is clearly not the Long replacement, Long wasn't even in the squad for the last part of the season Ings was here to require replacing. Armstrong is the Ings replacement. Tella has been more effective as a striker and Broja hasn't joined on loan to not make the squad due to us signing another striker.

What do you think Cortese's approach was? What strategy would you prefer Saints to use? Surely it is better to have wonderkids for a few years and enjoy their time here and then sell and reinvest in the next crop, than plod along with players the big clubs will never want... isn't it?

Yes, it is the Everton and Chelsea researchers who have done them. They both currently have extremely high PAs in the database for FM22. Their CAs are very low, particularly Small's.
