Closed doors friendly against Brighton today.....
Matthew Le God replied to tisspahars's topic in The Saints
You've lost me. All I did is guess it would be for the under 21's, I don't think it was unreasonable to think that might be the case. -
He was sent off vs Inter Milan in February and his suspension is applied this season in Celtic's next European match...
-
Why would they have to have photos taken at the stadium a week later? Jay Rodriguez for example had his photo done in the grounds of a hotel...

I didn't say guaranteed, but in contract talks the player/agent will want to know where they fit into the manager's plans. Cork may have been offered a deal by Saints, but it wouldn't have been that of a player likely to start a lot of games. He was dropping down the pecking order, plus Saints have youngsters in central midfield they are bringing through.
-
Saints didn't offer him a contract where he was likely to be first choice and a regular starter if everyone was fit. He did get that from Swansea.
-
If he signs today or tomorrow I don't see why not. The game is 8 days away.
-
Do you? I don't. Using what criteria do you think they are similar?
-
Not sure why they think that, as he is left footed. Used play on the left (both left back and a few occasions on the left of midfield) but the club are now using him as a left sided centre back.

If the game is happening, I think its likely to be an under 21 game for the players that won't be going to Holland on Friday. -

As its reported to be "behind closed doors", it doesn't really matter if its in Brighton as you won't be able to go. -

It would be pretty unusual for Premier League club first team to use trialists in pre-season. Why? For what reason would they need to announce it to the public? -
Perhaps Clyne, Wanyama and their agents didn't want to have 5 year contracts.
-
I didn't say they wouldn't be. But Stephens will be 5th choice at best at the beginning of the season, so will have relatively little exposure due to his position in the pecking order.
-
No, there is no need for anyone to bid higher than the release clause. If you match the release clause it is automatically accpeted and is then down to the player to decide if he wants to leave. This is a concept Pompey fans struggled with when Jed Wallace was sold.
-
I don't think he wants to come, if the press are to be believed.

What issue? He is solely a Torino player now... http://www.inter.it/en/news/48498

It would be quite a huge shift in thinking to go from having a large bid for Alderweireld, to using Stephens. Are you suggesting Yoshida will move up to first choice alongside Fonte, Gardos 3rd choice and Stephens becomes 4th choice? I think we'll be buying another centre back with the money they would have used for Alderweireld.

Of the 6 teams above us; Liverpool & Chelsea had a smaller number, Spurs & Man Utd 1 more player, Arsenal 2 more players and Man City 3 more players. One of our 20 players was Rodriguez who missed the entire season but is now back. Plus we have more quality under 21 players than most Premier League clubs to use in addition.

Squad size 2014/15 - Feb to May 1st Chelsea - 18 2nd Man City - 23 3rd Arsenal - 22 4th Man Utd - 21 5th Tottenham - 21 6th Liverpool - 19 7th Southampton - 20 8th Swansea - 25 9th Stoke - 23 10th Crystal Palace - 25 11th Everton - 23 12th West Ham - 22 13th West Brom - 21 14th Leicester City - 25 15th Newcastle - 23 16th Sunderland - 21 17th Aston Villa - 25 18th Hull City - 25 19th Burnley -23 20th QPR - 25 That 20 for Saints doesn't include the likes of Gallagher, Gape, Hesketh, Isgrove, McCarthy, McQueen, Reed, Seager, Stephens, Targett, Turnbull & Ward-Prowse. ............ For 2015/16 Saints currently have 21 players for the squad list. 22 if/when Clasie joins, 23 when we sign another centre back. Back to 22 if Mayuka leaves. Plus all the under 21 players, like Targett, Reed, Ward-Prowse etc.
-
I don't think that really makes a difference. Even if we tried to sign Clasie before Schneiderlin left, Feyenoord would be fully aware we wanted him because Schneiderlin was soon to be leaving for a big fee.

Claude Makelele - 1.70cm Jordy Clasie - 1.69cm His height didn't stop Makelele having a role named after him... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63WojjZy7QE

I doubt they really know what the plans are.

How many 20 year olds can you name that are regular starters for top half teams in the Premier League?
