  1. As the club are paying for the training ground improvements and large amounts on new players regardless of player sales, why sell Shaw?
  2. That is the Twitter account linked to some random person's Football Manager Handheld 2014 game. This is Clapham Rangers... http://www.claphamrangersfc.com/ They are an under 13's team. It is probably a 12 year old's Twitter account.
  3. Even if you knew Saints were in a position to continue signing players for big money regardless of player sales? If Cortese knows he can, then it is counter productive to sell Shaw as soon as a bid comes in. Yes, £30m is a lot of money but if Saints are able to spend regardless of player sales they should be looking to keep hold of their existing good players and bring in three high quality players each summer like they did with Wanyama, Osvaldo and Lovren to add to academy products.
  4. Shaw doesn't decide the price on his head.
  5. Obviously Neville doesn't he final say, but he is going to have an input into the England squad and starting line-up at the World Cup. If Neville was picking the England team I think there is a good chance he'd put Lallana in the starting line-up.
  6. Gary Neville had Lallana in his Premier League team of the first half of the season. So clearly someone on the England staff is extremely impressed with that particular Saints player.
  7. When did Baines play in the Champions League? If Baines hasn't, why would Shaw need to in order to get ahead of him?
  8. Lallana, Rodriguez, Lambert in the last England squads and Hodgson's very positive comments about Shaw, Ward-Prowse and Clyne show he doesn't have some kind of illogical vendetta about calling up Southampton players. After Cole's likely international retirement after the World Cup, if Shaw is deemed better than Gibbs he'll play ahead of Gibbs. Playing for Saints won't stop him making the squad.
  9. Luke Shaw will still get an England call-up playing for Southampton. It may or may not come before the World Cup, but I bet it does by the end of the 2014/15 season. Do you really think otherwise if he remains with Saints?
  10. He has Baines and Cole ahead of him, no matter who he played for he'd have to bide his time as an 18 year old to get in front of them. Roy has already spoken highly of Shaw as have other in the FA. Its only a matter of time before he is an England squad and then team regular. Playing for Saints won't stop him from that, Lallana, Lambert and Rodriguez have all been called up by Roy.
  11. If we are going to spend large amounts elsewhere in the summer regardless of player sales, why sell a player you don't need to if spending would continue regardless? We've had one of the largest net spends in England since our return to the Premier League.
  12. We were a newly promoted team in the Championship when Oxlade-Chamberlain was sold (he didn't even play a Championship game for us, only in League One!), we are now a top half Premier League side and our players are getting England call-ups.
  13. I have him as able to play as a winger. Which he quite easily could, as he already does much of what a winger would do already.
  14. His position isn't as black and white as that when Saints system is so flexible. Can his position really be only described as left back? He spends a huge amount of his time in a wingers position and could quite easily play full-time as a winger. £30m is not a world record for a winger.
  15. But is it a "ridiculous" price? I don't think it is, I can't think of many more impressive "fullback/wingers" aged 18 than Luke Shaw. He looks more impressive than Bale at the same age. If Shaw really is interesting Man City/Man Utd/Chelsea that also bumps the price up in any bidding war. Any club could get 15 years of quality service out of him!
  16. Not if Cortese plans to spend large amounts regardless of player sales (as he has done in both seasons so far), knows he does have large resources behind him and is true to his word on building a team from the academy.
  17. But if Cortese is planning to sign players for large amounts in the upcoming windows regardless of player sales (like in each season in the Premier League so far under him), whats the point of selling existing good players? You say "world record" like the Daily Mail article does say it'll be a world record for a fullback, but Shaw effectively plays as a winger for us for large spells of a game with midfielders covering him at left back. He is more impressive than Gareth Bale was at the same age.
  18. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2537848/Could-Shaw-worth-Alves-City-set-break-world-record-fee-pay-30m-18-year-old-Saint.html#ixzz2q8QniLQg James Milner signed for City for £28.5m, why is it daft to think City would bid £30m for Shaw? As for "should we take it?" If Cortese plans to continue to spend big money regardless of player sales like he has both seasons we've had back in the Premier League then there is no need to sell Shaw, might as well keep him and continue to strengthen the team. If sold it also sends out a message if he is sold that Cortese's academy plan won't work.
  19. You think the 3rd best team in Spain is after one of the two players you regularly criticise at a mid table Premier League side! Does that not suggest you may be wrong about their abilities?
  20. He has only served 1 game of his 3 match ban. He will miss the West Brom and Sunderland games and will be back for the Yeovil FA Cup game.
  21. Why? The difference in quality between Boruc and Davis/Gazzaniga is a lot bigger than it is between Wanyama and Cork.
  22. This link explains how do do all the code available on the forum... http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/misc.php?do=bbcode
  23. And that makes it better? Ramirez is frustrating at times and inconsistent, but there is clearly a very good player in there. I still wouldn't write him off yet.
  24. Says the man that has given a childish derogatory nickname to a player of the club he "supports"...
  25. Pulis keeping them up is one thing and I think there is a reasonable chance he will, but Saints are still along way ahead of Palace in terms of quality of player and it would take a huge swing and large amounts of money they won't spend to reverse that.
