I thought Lavia was excellent for 60 mins. Round about 70 I said where’s Lavia gone? Big gaps through the middle and constant pressure on the top of our box. Was he injured? Had the trainer on in the first half and went to ground again in the second half. if he’d stayed on no guarantee that he could/would replicate his first half performance. Lads gave their all tonight, but ultimately they have the players and set up to be first/second best in the league, we are where we are. Six more of those performances and we stay up. I fully don’t expect us to, inexperienced manager and much too weak squad. Let’s go down gracefully, regroup, and go again with a proper manager and much better recruitment (we would have been better off giving Brighton’s recruitment man £15m than signing tall Paul).

Depressing to look at the table, closest relegation struggle for years (ever?), at least for places 18 and 19 it is! The weakest the PL has been for years, loads of poor/mediocre/inconsistent sides, and we can’t even raise a gallop to put ourselves in the mix. And where have all the goals gone? Chelsea in eleventh place have scored exactly a goal a game, of the the nine teams below them seven have scored less than a goal a game. Last year only the bottom three managed to score less than one goal a game. I randomly picked 2016 to double check, the year Leic won, Villa were bottom with 27 goals, Norwich went down with 39 goals, Newcastle went down with 44 goals, comfortably above one a game. Looks like there will be between four and five teams this year with around 30-32 goals from 38 games. Not sure fans of any of the bottom six to eight sides can really enjoy this sort of football? Buy a season ticket and wait 90 minutes plus to see if/when your side can score a single goal!
