  1. Not today because the Pompey defenders did a number on him. Guly is the type of player that needs time on the ball or his team mates to have time on the ball to get the best out of him. If he doesn't he is not effective. I'd expect Adkins to acknowledge this and know that in a game like todays it was unlikely we would be afforded the luxury of time on the ball and decide not to play him. Alas, Adkins chose to play him so you have to put up with the likliehood of Guly not being at his best.
  2. He's not given up, just the new breed are as talented as he is but with much better focus. These days, if you want to beat Ronnie, make it a scrappy affair early in the match with long, low-scoring frames and he will lose interest.
  3. Exactly. What do people want him to do? Ask to be substituted? He actually wasn't that bad. His running off the ball was good, would have scored but for a good save from their keeper, actually won quite a few headers and drew a lot of fouls. Pretty sure he was the one chopped down for their players booking when he would have otherwise put Richardson clean through on the right-wing.
  4. The guy has been top draw for the most part of this season, particularly in home games. I think people need to lay off him a bit. When he's banging in the goals like he did against Middlesborough and Millwall etc... no one seems to mind his laid-back, languid approach. When he's splitting defences with passes like he did last week against Blackpool for Lambert to spank a shot straight at the keeper no one seemed to complain then. He is a luxury player at times, but his positives more than outweight his negatives. He perhaps struggles a bit in games like today when time on the ball is at a premium but give him that time on the ball and he is probably our most gifted player in terms of vision and providing a killer pass. To be honest, I'm more frustrated with Lallana recently. He seems to want to beat his man twice everytime when once will suffice.
  5. Sod it, throw him in. Worth the gamble. We will need his energy and bite tomorrow.
  6. Totally agree. I'd dearly love to see them fail to win promotion. If they don't get up whilst they are receiving paracute payments, they will be screwed.
  7. I think the only immediate urgency is a right winger capable of creating an impact from the first minute, ideally with pace to burn and another forward. I have a feeling we'll look to sign someone who could do both jobs though.
  8. Was a bit before my time admittedly and was obviously a great player for his time but football moves on. Players are also now athletes with superior conditioning. Because of this the opposition is also stronger which is why I am confident if you took Maradona from 1986 and directly compared him to Messi as he is now, Messi would be the better player.
  9. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo would run rings around any of the old school greats in my opinion. Best player I've seen in his pomp is Thierry Henry. I think people forget how ridiculously unplayable he was.
  10. Booked one for me and my brother in law today in the Kingsland/Northam corner. I can confirm that availability isn't great.
  11. This is key.
  12. 2 pages unless you are in a profession that carries lots of qualifications and requires years of experience. 1 page is too short, looks like you've achieved nothing and 3 pages is an autobiography.
  13. Apparently a VERY dodgy decision too...
  14. Chillax people. We are a 2nd half team.
  15. I particularly like how you don't refer to him as your Uncle.
  16. I could not live with this. I know some people are feigning outrage on this thread but honestly, if my skate wife (just about acceptable if shes from Pompey and not really in to her football) ever tried brain washing a kid of mine in to supporting them it probably would be grounds for divorce. I just couldn't bear watching my flesh and blood running around in a Pompey shirt. Probably sounds harsh but football is such a big part of my life and I can't wait until the day I can take my son(s) down to SMS. I genuinely think I would love my child less if they decided to support them.
  17. Scratch that, he left without making a single appearance. From Wikipedia: Portsmouth Despite announcing his retirement from the game the previous year it was confirmed on 28 July 2009 that Antti Niemi was in talks with Portsmouth.[4] On 7 August, Niemi confirmed he had signed for Portsmouth on a one year deal as backup to David James and to work with the goalkeeping coaches.[5] On 24 March 2010, he was released from his contract, without making a single appearance in the Portsmouth's first team. It was reported that Niemi earned almost £450,000 during those eight months with Portsmouth. Good lad Antti.
  18. Niemi is still on the books I believe...

  20. We have by far the best goals for tally in the league. I can't believe this is even being discussed.
  21. Cant get on Twitter at work but this isn't HSBC in Chandlers Ford again is it?

    A prospect

Saints do take these sort of recommendations seriously, particularly if you have reports that back up what you are saying. There is an email address on the club website where you can send these recommendations and I'm sure Saints would be interested in ensuring they get first look when he comes over from Oz to visit. Good luck!
  23. Nothing wrong with the bands you mentioned. The difference being, with Coldplay we are talking about a band with 5 studio albums with like it or not, smash hits on each one. The challenge of keeping their sets fresh, exciting and engaging, whilst still having to play these hits is hard but they do seem to manage it. Stone Roses didn't have to ever tour the world singing Fools Gold 10 years after it was released. Same goes for the Pistols. As I said before, I am not a huge Coldplay fan but was blown away when I saw them live and they ripped it up at Glastonbury this year too.
  24. I'll also go for 2nd half v Leicester. It was like watching Barcelona; retaining possession, passing in triangles, attacking in waves, cutting them open at will.
  25. Absolutely key point. They presume because we've only just been promoted that our squad is paper thin. It isn't. And one suspects that beyond January, the strength in depth is only likely to improve as well.
