Just seen "Choke". I quite liked it but then I like most stuff Chuck Palahniuk has written though I hadn't read "Choke" before. Sam Rockwell as always is excellent.

In what sense did the original post mention the lib dems? The one I quoted certainly didn't. Actually I do understand politics - I work for the government. That's any government that's democratically elected and without prejudice. All i'm saying is that the slogan "socialist" and particularly atypical socialist is a tired cliche that has no relevance within this thread. If it makes you feel better then fine but it doesn't make a better argument.

Oh, and any MP caught out with bogus and irresponsible expense claims are conning the public whatever their party. To suggest that the Tories are less to blame because "we expect that from them" would give some indication as to why they lost power and remain in opposition, no? I don't recall any party manifesto claiming that they would endeavour to fiddle their expenses as much as possible so this is not a party issue - it's an individual thing.

Atypical means different from and not conforming to the norm. Please try and use language correctly. Unless, of course, you mean that the current labour party is not in the least socialist in which case then you're right and I apologise.

But Dr. Robert Oppenheimer's optimism failed at the first hurdle?

In The kNow tonight?

The other thing to consider is that would players be willing to give up or defer their pay if not all the other players did it? Say, for example, you're Kelvin Davies agree to defer wages for the good of the club and then see a colleague like BWP not follow suit? I'm not sure I'd be happy in that situation.

Exclusive - Open Letter to Fans From New Owner...
revolution saint replied to Guided Missile's topic in The Saints
Groundhog day, we've been here before - a rehash of Wilde's manifesto. It's quite funny and not in the least bit serious. -
Sorry mate but unless you or your friends can promise unlimited wealth, a premiership return within two seasons and a top ten finish within three seasons then fans will be disappointed. I'm not saying I agree with any of this but it's the nature of the beast. To be fair though if you or your friends name isn't Rupert then that will help......unless your surname is Wilde.

I'd agree with this Thing is they're allowed to claim things like this. Whether it's right or wrong is irrelevant 0 they're just doing what they're allowed to get away with. Join the club St. Landrew and Bexy - I've spoiled my vote for the last two elections. I wrote "No Choice" on the ballot paper. It didn't really serve any purpose but I'll be damned if someone turns to me and says because I didn't vote then I have no opinion. To be honest though we get the government we deserve.

Without wanting to get all judgemental I think this is one of the reasons why people didn't contribute to the bucket collections. Who wants to see their donated money go to people who already earn a comparitively high wage? I think if it had been stressed that it would go to non-playing staff then there would have been more raised. I'd agree though that I don't think we can blame players for not deferring their wages - it would have been a nice gesture and would have helped a lot though. Good job there's no player testimonial this year eh?

Just finished "Child 44" by Tim Rob Smith. Nice little cold war thriller. It wasn't great but the pace was pretty good. Ludicrous ending but I wasn't expecting too much anyway. It was a nice little book that required little concentration which is great as I've been off sick. Next up is "The damned united". I've had it kicking around for ages and not got round to it until now.

It won't happen, we'll be in administration for a record amount of time, get relegated again and yet still be linked with the richest people in the world.

No, Terry Yaki. A successful businessman with far east connections. Damn, I revealed him. Sorry Terry!

I can't reveal my sauces, good times are ahead though trust me.

Yes, this ties in with what I've been hearing too. Rumours I've heard are that the only group to pass due diligence and submit a bid have reached a deal that is favourable to the majority of our creditors. COYR Actually that's all rubbish - I made it up. I give this thread 2 pages before it becomes a slanging match between people who pretend to know something but actually don't.

Telegraph article re Council buying the club
revolution saint replied to wimbornesaint's topic in The Saints
I can see the council buying the ground as a last resort, and Solent could in theory utilise some of the facilities, especially the conference facilities but I'd doubt Solent could put much money into the pot. -
The first signing of the Div 1 campaign....
revolution saint replied to kpturner's topic in The Saints
I'd like to see us sign some great big lump of a striker. Someone who while not mobile will bully defences, hold the ball up and bring others into play. I don't really care if he's not the new Torres I have no idea who as I'm not really up on Div 1 players (or lower) but someone like Micky Evans (as in like him, not actually him) would be good. As for Tessem, I was never a great fan at the time and I think he'll be less effective now - I'd rather MLT came back to be honest. -
Nothing serious for me but remember the crush on the milton early 90's. I made the mistake of getting to a game early and getting a great spot just in front of one of the metal barriers - great till we scored. Everyone pushed forward and I thought my ribs would break. It got to the stage where I almost hoped we wouldn't score again. Of course this season that wouldn't have been much of a problem.

Well technically b astard and probably b ugger could be applied equally but I'm not sure they often are - they're both pretty much exclusively applied to men. Anyway, I don't think it's been a sexist thread and there have been enough similar threads on men doing equally bad things so I don't think people are judging the person by their gender. Whoever said it was probably an east european immigrant is jumping to conclusions and wrong though.

b astard and b ugger would both tend to imply the person is male wouldn't it?

Boxing - Pacman V Hatton, Froch V Taylor
revolution saint replied to revolution saint's topic in General Sports
Hatton should retire now - there's nothing left for him to achieve (that he's capable of). He's a good fighter but not a great one and that should be good enough for him. He reminds me of Arturo Gatti - excellent entertainment and a real scrapper but lacked that bit of boxing class. In fact Hatton is very similar to his hero, Roberto Duran, in that respect. The only thing likely on the horizon is a meeting with Amir Khan (if he beats Kotelnik) but that would be a mistake. What would it prove if he won? Nothing because the doubts are still there over the class of Khan. If Khan won then equally people would just say he beat up a shadow of the fighter Hatton once was. Mind you, it'll sell tickets and ultimately that's all boxing seems to be about. Oh, congratulations to Manny. No complaints here - he won fair and square and even if Hatton boxed more cleverly I don't believe he'd ever have won. As for Mayweather Vs Manny? Would be a good fight. Mayweather isn't stupid though and if it was made then it would be on his terms. That means it would probably be at welterweight - not great for Manny. I also think that if Mayweather has the same form he showed against Hatton then he'd beat Manny. -
Boxing - Pacman V Hatton, Froch V Taylor
revolution saint replied to revolution saint's topic in General Sports
Yes, that's my feeling too and add in that Ricky looks really, really weight drained and the supposed trouble in the camp with Mayweather Snr then it doesn't look good for Ricky. I really feel that the Hatton that beat Kostya Tzstu (sp?) would beat Manny but now? I'd love it but Roach isn't stupid and they'll just box their way out of trouble. -
Boxing - Pacman V Hatton, Froch V Taylor
revolution saint replied to revolution saint's topic in General Sports
The inside work will be crucial - I haven't seen enough of it in recent fights from Hatton. He used to be devastating on the inside but seems to want to box much more now. Against PBF he actually got beaten up on the inside, forget the ref, Hatton just didn't compete there. Maybe that was the weight issue though. The only nagging thing in my head is that Roach is an excellent trainer - I'd rate him above Mayweather Snr f'sure. If he can get Manny to stick to a gameplan then I'd rate Manny's chances. I'd be suprised if it was over in three though (as Roach suggests) but then if we got another Hagler V Hearns three rounds then I won't complain. -
Don't get me started on them! What about the fat bloke on a sofa saying of his loan, "we even had some left over" after buying a car or home improvements. Well in that case you borrowed too much! It's not free money.
