Crawley could appoint a woman as their new manager. There's literally no reason why female managers managing men's teams can't work. The problem is, it needs to be a long term commitment to do this. Look at the way that managers are turned on so quickly now a days as soon as the slightest thing goes wrong and so as soon as something goes wrong it'll be "GET HER OUT, WOMEN CAN'T BE MANAGERS" etc.

With every quote from a player/manager it'll serve you well to think about what question they'd have been asked in order to give that answer. Ralph didn't call a presser to announce that he might give Long another go, he'd have been asked "Is it possible that Long will remain at the club?" He'd have been asked the question and he was hardly going to say "Absolutely not, he's awful and should have left before I even arrived here" is he?

I'd take take Lawrence for free. Give him a two year contract and if he ends up being crap, he's proven to be a good Championship player so sell him for a token fee to Wigan or Bristol City. Seems a pretty low risk move to me. But then that's assuming he is free and he would accept a two year contract I know.

But it is. Football clubs are companies, footballers and coaches are employees, fans are customers. It's exactly like any other industry except with football there's a lot of emotional bias and recency bias.

He did far more than 'okay' for us in the lower leagues. He made the League One team of the year two years in a row and was lauded in our last season in the Championship before being relegated when we routinely conceded 3 or 4 and he was our best player. It was just in the PL that he was exposed and rightly relegated to second or third choice.

I agree with all of that. I think the club gave him the job as a coach because of the loyalty he'd shown as a player and I get why they gave him that first job at the club, essentially a glorified cheerleader, that seemed pretty harmless enough and I doubt he was on that much money but moving him to being a first team coach was just bizarre. Even an under 18's coach I think he'd have done well.
