That is my fear really - our current crop of u21's are not the level needed to play in Prem - we have some lower down but will be a couple of years yet . Unless we recruit some young guns our squad depth will be weak if likes of Hesketh, Sims, Seagar who are light weight and a big jump to get to Prem level. Not writing him off just the expectation seems a bit much with what he is inheriting.

Steve Wigley was a good coach but abysmal manager so is Stuart Gray they have made a living out of that!

I have explained before but here goes - I think MPel was a better option based on his experience of managing in other countries, Europe league, his record in Spain. He would have experience of managing Prem league players , contacts and experience. Puel has only managed in France, his win ratio is nothing amazing and a long time since won anything. I understand we want a training ground manager and the Southampton way and bringing on the academy - but you can only do that if you have the players to do that and I am not convinced we do at present - we may try and change that by adding some though it seems. Puel does seem a good fit though going on what I have read - its a gamble but then so is every managerial appointment really - Howe at Burnley is a good example of that. Nothing to do with big names in my opinion but we will see how he goes and will get my full support for whatever that is worth.
