  1. On the bright side - if he works on his decision making, link up play, final ball and finishing then we have a player with real potential.
  2. Amazing to think now that we signed Pelle, Mane, Toby and Tadic all in one window. Followed by VVD the following summer. Glory days! As Bruce says in his song though... Glory days, they'll pass you by
  3. I met Jim Steele and Reuben Agboola a few years back at a dinner function. I thought they were both lovely fellas. Poor old Rueben was on crutches. I'm not sure if that was the result of his playing days or not. Also bumped into Crouchie in a pub years back. I was with my young son at the time. Crouchie was in for dinner with his missus and a few others. You honestly couldn't meet a nicer fella. He went out of his way to speak with my son and even called out goodbye when we left. Once had a good chat with Alan Pardew at a pre match friendly v Sutton Utd, he was a really nice fella too.
  4. Who remembers the Carlsberg advert? https://youtu.be/_iU9G9JApFU
  5. Big Jack Charlton has passed. How very sad. Football legend.
  6. Sounds like you and me had very similar upbringings. I reckon I had the exact same coaching binders! Great memories. Yes, Ivan was a beast. Wonder what he would be worth in his prime in today's market!
  7. Now there was a player. At one stage he was the highest scoring full-back in the history of the Football League. He must be nearly 70 now. When I was a nipper, I played the same position and tried to model myself on him (obviously with less successful results) Also, one of only 2 players to play in 2 cup finals for Saints.
  8. They shouldn't be awarded the title, but we could do something to show good will and lessen the disappointment a little. I don't know...maybe a certificate or something
  9. So the issue with closed door games will be how many front line resources this will still take up. For example, let's say the scousers are 1 game away from the title. Are you telling me that 1000s of them won't be turning up to mill around outside the ground? Or Leeds on their promotion winning game? etc etc
  10. Danso is a product of the mighty MK Dons academy. He could have qualified for England I believe
  11. I take that line as meaning there is interest in Carillo and Lemina from overseas clubs but as their windows are still open, they don't need to act today
  12. Don't know if he's been mentioned before but Olivier Ntcham from our feeder club looks like a perfect fit for us
  13. Me too! We watched the 76 final at my Brother's. He was newly married and they had a colour TV. Dad was ****ed at the end of the match, was sick in the toilet and lost his false teeth down the pan! Great welcome to the family for my brother's new wife. But no-one cared that day :-)
  14. Great, great memories. I loved that team. Haven't seen this for years. I had forgotten Boyer flicking the ball of the Leeds guy's head. I remember as a lad thinking that was cool :-) Went to the second leg with my Dad and sister and the final too. Very clear memory of the game at the Dell. Lovely memories of my old Dad - a staunch Saints and Hampshire cricket man
  15. Fair enough same as me then
  16. I call this BS purely on the fact you are saying you have got a mate
  17. Probably a stupid question for you football geniuses: I was wondering how/what players get paid for playing for England. Reason I ask this on the Redmond thread is that I was explicitly wondering how much NR and JWP would have got just for turning up to the squad week.
  18. We only got 2 wins from playing those 3 home and away, plus lost both v cardiff. At one stage I thought the 6 pointer losses v cardiff would do for us tbh
  19. I like that a lot
  20. My biggest beef is why didn't one of Manure, Chelsk, Arsenal, City come in for him. Am I right in thinking Saints made it clear they would be happy to sell to anybody but the Scouse once they realised he was set on leaving? All those clubs are need of good CBs. Personally respect his footballing ability, but don't like him as a person. Should never be referred to as Virgil on here as if he is some friend of our club :-)
  21. We must be able to raid Celtic for a few. That's been a pretty successful ploy for us up to now.
  22. Anybody know who it is? Raving days never leave you hey
  23. Saggy Chops anyone?
  24. Will he be buying for the prem or the championship? Why do most people presume we are free from relegation worries just because we have had a couple of wins lately? Clubs down the bottom will all start to improve as the season goes on. It will be a long hard fight yet. A few injuries in key positions and we'll be right up against it.
  25. Anybody remember this? I have a complete blank - can't remember it at all. From Wikipedia: It was organised by the Football League and was intended as a form of financial and sporting compensation for the English clubs which had qualified for European competition in the previous season but had been banned from entering European tournaments by UEFA following the Heysel Stadium disaster. Ironically, it was the Dippers who ultimately won it. The six clubs invited to participate, and the European competitions they would have qualified for, were: Everton (Football League champions, European Cup) Manchester United (FA Cup winners, Cup Winners' Cup) Norwich City (League Cup winners, UEFA Cup) Liverpool (UEFA Cup) Tottenham Hotspur (UEFA Cup) Southampton (UEFA Cup) Our results were: 17 September 1985 Liverpool 2–1 Southampton 2 October 1985 Tottenham Hotspur 2–1 Southampton 22 October 1985 Southampton 1–1 Liverpool 17 December 1985 Southampton 1–3 Tottenham Hotspur Anybody remember going to any of these games?
