A header from 3 yards, from a cross that had to travel all the way from the touchline. Are you really suggesting a quality keeper cannot read the flight of the ball from that far out, step forward 3 paces and get his outstretched hands over the head of a striker? Even just to punch clear? If you're suggesting that is an unreasonable expectation of a keeper, then I feel you have massively low benchmarks for those between the sticks.

So the opposition fans said that we were robbed. Impartial football reporters said that we were robbed. Why are some of our own fans so completely precious about saying the same thing? Very odd behaviour, though admittedly predictable.

Another objective view from the Beeb: "Southampton face a nervous battle with the Hammers for the second automatic place. But Nigel Adkins' side can take huge credit for the way they played and if they perform like they did tonight in each of their final three games there will not be a team that can live with them."
-
Was the neutral BBC reporter a bad loser too, when he said that "Saints were robbed"?
-
BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan at St Mary's Stadium: "Reading move a step closer to promotion with a vital victory but Saints will certainly join them if they play like they they did tonight. Saints were robbed, but that won't matter one bit to Brian McDermott and his side."

He really hasn't. Last year? Yes. An absolute cut above, League 1 football was far beneath him, it looked ridiculously easy for him at times. This year, he's struggled at times to impose himself, and as much as I also like Jos I feel they still have some very shaky moments together. They're good for this level, and usually pretty consistent, but the Rolls Royce analogy is way, way over the top.

Nope, nothing at all. We did nothing going forwards. Good point.

Good performance from Saints. Undone by a team in form, high on confidence, and who know how to take their chances. Fonte had a mare, and we had one of those days in front of goal where we could have scored 5 but weren't nearly clinical enough. Gets a little tasty from here on in, but still got to believe, and would still prefer to be in our position than West Ham's.

Tony Husband sounds very much like Alan Partridge. And the two of them are equally competent.

I think there was a bit of uproar about the way he was depicted in the film; they portrayed him as a coward when in actual fact he was nothing of the sort. I also think James Cameron or the movie production company sent an apology to his family about how they mis-represented him.

Exactly right. You'd have to be massively ignorant to think West Ham got any favours with penalties today, they could justifiably have had three.

B*llocks. Can see the Hammers winning this now, there'll be ages of added time.

That's like telling a compass not to point north, to be fair.

Not really, he's black, no-one liked him because of that.

Here we go again, the old racism card. Well done for listing two white fellas in there though. BWP was never much of a boo boy, he was a frustarting player in that he had plenty of talent that went to waste. Fuller was pilloried because he was from Pompey and unfit/lazy. mcGoldrick was just sh*t, a homeless man's Andy Cole. Kenwyne Jones? He was revered while here, and only disliked due to the nature of his strike to get a move away. he was always a popular player, so I think you might have made that one up. If racism is such a problem at Saints, can you explain how we can have had such affection for the likes of Danny Wallace, Reuben Agboola, Rod Wallace, Ken Monkou, Dean Richards, Radhi Jaidi etc etc, plus the others that you mention? But the PC brigade love to chuck in the old racism accusation.

I've not heard this one; go on......

Back a few years ago, I'm talking the Chris Nicholl days and onwards, I just have a recollection that we were always primed for a late goal against us. It always seemed to be our thing, often able to hold on to a lead until the final minutes and then just capitulate, leaving the ground yet again bemoaning throwing the 3 points away. WGS seemed to bring some defensive stability to us, which was probably a turning point (at least in my mind).

So, by definition, if something is expanding (i.e. getting bigger) how is it doing that without occupying more space?
