  1. When you have to worry (and I hope you don't find yourself in that position) who is going to look after your kid when you die, because he can't ever look after himself and frankly no one else will want to, it gives a different perspective on life and what is important. There, that is my greatest concern in life. Football isn't important (to me at least). Again, it is ignoring the difference between the giver and the taker. If you turned round to, say, Rooney aged 10 and said that he was going to be a pro football player and that he was only ever going to earn a max of £300k a year (as opposed to his weekly wage) along with every other football player, I don't think he would turn around and say that he wasn't going to get out of bed for so little, which after all is 10 times the national average. I'm not going to criticise any of the players for trying to maximise their wages, I criticise the business that throws such obscene amounts of money around. If you take on board that difference, then it isn't hypocritical. If we want Saints to survive in the league, then we too have to be part of this, and yes, there is where I face a dichotomy. My love of Saints and my dislike of football. Hypocrisy? Maybe, although not in my eyes
  2. Pompous - why, or is that a throw away comment? I was criticising those handing it out, not accepting it. If you read my post above carefully, it stats off "If I were him". I didn't actually pass judgement on Shanghai, but if you want it, £150k for him is ridiculous, as is them spending £46.3m on Hulk.
  3. If I were him, I would take it. Shanghai is a vibrant city, and the wage will set him up for life. Remember, this £150k a week is tax free, so would be the equivalent of say £250k a week pre tax.
  4. I really hope he gets back to where he was (obviously), not least because he has his old Burnley strike partner here, so there should be some understanding already in place, admittedly it was 5 years ago.
  5. Talk****e and that dipsomaniac just mentioned it and mentioned 3 of the 10 teams.. Man Utd, Cambridge and Ipswich.... and called on others to go to their twitter thing to say why he should support their team.
  6. Are you sure he wasn't given a chance? http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jay-rodriguez/leistungsdaten/spieler/53360/plus/0?saison=2015 He seems to have played small parts due to coming back from injury. That is fair enough, rather than being thrown on for 90 minutes.
  7. I'd most likely go for 1x $100 hooker and have her 3 times.
  8. Oh come off it, the cement works to the east aren't the best feature. You have the gas holders to the north, the railway line to the west and those natty warehouses to the south. All tough competition for which is best.
  9. After his ACL, didn't he get stronger and quicker?? Not sure what his other injury was after that - something to do with the ankle I know, but is it something career threatening?
  10. out of interest, would you know what the prices are? Been 25 years or so since I've been to a Ligue 1 match.
  11. Allianz Riviera has a capacity of 35k and Nice had a average home attendance of 19k last season.
  12. Are the players buying into it, or is it too early?
  13. Bony is surely going to go somewhere. Wet Spam no doubt will try.
  14. Hey Chuckie, what happens if we win all our half dozen opening fixtures? Will you still be a negative melting tool?
  15. Exactly. Given that our league usually has 6 teams battling for 4 spots, saying you are moving for CL is a little hollow. This is exacerbated by LCFC's appearance, which I imagine will be fleeting (ie not next season), so joining LCFC or even Spurs (most likely) for CL, is a little nonsensical. Other leagues around Europe are far more certain to appear in CL (or is taht an ill founded impression that I have?).
  16. Still no. Can I ask whether you think a club our size can still be sustainable by handing out £30m wage deals to £30m signings? And I do wonder about the harmony of the group. I cannot imagine that CPFC will have a lot of content players if/when Benteke arrives earning twice to three times as much as everyone else.

  18. Maybe, but not at £30m. I would be disappointed if we start throwing that sort of money about.
  19. £27m rising to £31.5m. Wonder what targets need to be met to get the £4.5m extra. Europe? Spending that sort of money on a player, EL is the very minimum you should be expecting. Football has well and truly gone mad. Wonder if CPFC have agreed to up his £120k a week wages? If it is a 5 year deal, then this is going to cost them over £60m.
  20. https://www.gucci.com/uk/en_gb/ca/men/mens-ready-to-wear/mens-shirts-c-men-readytowear-shirts Gucci shirts cost what they do, because of the label sown in the back not because they are not massed produced. As it is, I really am not impressed by someone wearing a so called designer labelled shirt. In fact I think how sad.
  21. have to go to at least the last post, so that the thread is marked as read. Yes I know, I could click on "mark forums read" but mainly I like to see the reaction people have to this topic, rather than the topic itself. Personally I would choose a damn strip and stick with it. No need to change every year, or is there? It's this ridiculous marketing that taps into some peoples' equally ridiculous materialism where they feel that they have to have the latest of everything.
  22. Am I the only person who is disinterested on an annual basis as to what the team shirt looks like?
  23. Are 1st team happy with that?
  24. No. If he had, he would likely have missed Euro16. Now the question is, is he likely to make Russia? I doubt it, so going there won't affect his international career as it is likely to be over. Or am I doing his international career a disservice?
