  1. That relegation ain’t so bad?
  2. Really? Even under Wotte and Poortvliet we played some better football.
  3. You'd need to find a buyer first.
  4. Dean will suffer for missing it. They are paid for every game that they take plus a retainer so if/when he misses a couple it will hit him in the pocket. Doesn't help us tough.
  5. Not just at corners. We retreated so far back that almost everybody was in the box and yet Hazard and Giroux foud space and time to score. The problem is that if too many players are there then nobody knows which player to mark and so nobody picks up anybody. If the midfielders push up more then it becomes obvious which attackers are loose and also puts pressure on the opposition players that are just outside the box. Otherwise we can't clear the ball upfield.
  6. Home games, especially after the end of January? The decline had set in well before the end of the season and began with us throwing the home cup game against Arsenal.
  7. One game at a time (I know, I know) Is it feasible for us to get a point at Leicester? - yes, of course, Then, having done well there is it feasible for us to beat Bournemouth? - yes, of course.
  8. When I was at university there was a Leicester fan among us. They had just been relegated and he was explaining that he saw it as a chance to regroup, consolidate and then progress back up from there. This was in 1969 and sure enough they eventually won the league title!
  9. No they're not. As long as you can hear them they are a pathetic embarrassment.
  10. Which game was that? I must have missed it. (Cup Final excepted)
  11. How long does it take FFS?
  12. He had a long time off with his injury and it takes a long time to recover your pace and confidence after that. I wish him well.
  13. We would still have two chances of a cup win which would give us Europe. Miss about the Premier League? Absolutely nothing - good riddance. And get rid of those bloody advertising screens too. And the ******* drums.
  14. I was told that I would get an email when they were posted but they turned up a week ago and I still haven’t received an email.
  15. They panicked. It wasn’t very pretty.
  16. Of course we won’t, but I was answering to ‘It’s in our own hands’. This phrase is only ever used by the terminally desperate.
  17. And even if you were a Premier League footballer she still might turn you down. Football’s like that. Neither rhyme nor reason.
  18. NO NO NO! Drums are naff and do nothing to help the atmosphere. Bloody stupid idea.
  19. It isn't really but if we beat Swansea we gain 3 points on them and if we win all our remaining games we shall finish on 43 points which ought to be enough.
  20. I remember Nicholl's quote just after being sacked. Something like "I haven't been sacked because I failed. I've been sacked because I haven't succeeded". Ivan Glolac was my neighbour at the time and I often chatted to him about attacking strategy. He and Nicholl used to be room mates on away trips. He was a gung-ho type and said that he liked to leave three up front when defending corners.
  21. You misunderstand me completely. All I am saying is that barking on about '8th and a cup final' is meaningless. I don't have any expectations as far as Saints are concerned, but I do want to get some entertainment for my money. "Goals win games, defense wins championships" (did you mean defence?) has been around for longer than I have and the original quote was from an American, I believe. I don't expect Saints to win any championships but I do expect a few goals now and again. I'm curious as to what makes you think that I have high expectations? Far from it.
  22. There were several attempts at tackles on Hazard and personally I didn't think that any of them warranted a free kick but that's not the point as it wasn't my decision. Dean signals for Advantage after the second challenge but that doesn't mean that was where he considered the foul to have taken place. Pointing back upfield just means that once he was satisfied that there was no advantage he had blown for an earlier foul. In any case, a referee is entitled to change his mind at any time before the games restarts and let's be honest, the free kick was taken way upfield and passed out to the wings. The kick was aken from where one of the attempted challenges took place. Our players weren't ready for it, but they should have been. It's no good bleating like schoolkids "Please Sir, I wasn't ready". As for Shane, he recovered enough to have a shot and neary score so he can't have Advantage as well. I don't think it was a foul anyway, Shane slipped before he got up and then slipped again and kicked the ball against his other foot.
  23. That doesn't follow. And you can't win unless you score goals.
  24. What do I want? Firstly, I want to be entertained, I want to be roused, I want to feel some passion about the game that I’m watching. I want to see some effort, unforgettable moments, something that gets me up out of my seat with a smile. I expect us to finish higher than 44 points. I don’t expect us to win a trophy, but that would be nice once in a generation. Above all I want to see us go all-out to try to win every game.
  25. It’s a sad part of modern professional football that this cheating ‘gamesmanship’ goes on, and has been since I started going over 50 years ago. From The Times this morning: “Southampton are too nice and that has got to change, says Mark Hughes” Mark Hughes stood in his technical area wishing he could see more fouls, more cynicism from his players as they conceded three goals in eight second-half minutes that could come to define the hellishness of Southampton’s entire season. It is not over, not yet, but when these two teams meet again on Sunday in the FA Cup semi-final, the occasion could feel macabre rather than carefree. Hughes said it was “difficult” for him to watch the team let a two-goal lead slip away so dramatically. “It was that case of thinking, ‘Come on guys, you need to understand what’s happening here’,” the Southampton manager said. “Sometimes you have to have the ability, some would say it’s a skill, to knock people over in the right areas of the field. We are probably a little bit too honest in that regard.”
