It's all very well providing stats for aerial duels won, but that doesn't reflect what I've seen with my own eyes. Che has many qualities but he has never, ever looked a threat from corners. Whereas in only a couple of starts, Broja has shown himself to be far more dangerous in that regard.

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

He's falling apart under the select committee questioning over MPs standards. The way he moves his eyes around when he's trying to think up some guff to cover up his uselessness is such a giveaway. -
I don't want to take too much away from him because he did really well to come back from starting last on the grid for the sprint qualifying race to winning the GP on Sunday to keep the title race wide open. But... Some in the media are describing Sunday's performance as one of the greatest ever, but I really don't think it's even close. He started 10th, made a good start and made up a few places in the first few laps because his car was blatantly faster than the midfielders around him, then there was a virtual saftey car which bunched them up again, meaning he was never more than a few seconds off the lead. When I think of the best F1 drives of all time, I think of Senna lapping everyone bar Damon Hill in the wet at Donnington in 1993, or Schumacher coming second at Catalunya in 1994 despite his car being stuck in 5th gear for virtually the entire race, or Damon Hill coming agonisingly close to winning in the dogshit Arrows at Budapest in 1997 only to suffer a technical failure on the penultimate lap and finish second, or even Jenson Button recovering from last after colliding with his own team-mate, and getting a penalty and a puncture to win at Montreal in 2011. It was a very good drive from Hamilton on Sunday, but it wasn't even in the same league as any of those IMO.

Lee Mason on VAR. Definitely gonna put a few quid on there being a red card in the match. It's like printing money.

Pretty sure nobody does. It's just a running joke based on some absurd comments someone on here made before we signed him.

Is that John McGinn rushing over to celebrate with Che? Thought he was suspended.

I look forward to the day Kane surpasses Rooney's goalscoring record.

What a stupid penalty decision. The touch was so faint and didn't alter the fact the shot was off target.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/nov/10/campaigners-celebrate-new-uk-environment-law-but-vow-to-fight-on The Environment Act was given royal assent and passed into law last week. Still work to be done to fully address the river pollution problem, but it's a good start, requiring a comprehensive plan to reduce discharges from CSOs by September next year. It's odd though, given how much attention this issue was receiving only a few weeks ago, that the Guardian seems to be the only mainstream outlet that has bothered to report this.

Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES
Sheaf Saint replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
Yep, fair points. I guess I just lazily assumed because it was timed to coincide with remembrance services that it would be IRA-related, given that tensions are rising again following Brexit. But I've seen the video now and realise it was a suicide bomber, and that's not their style at all so it's more likely IS. Have to wait for more as it's reported I guess. Will be interesting to hear the cabbie's full story. -

Amazingly quick and selfless thinking. A true hero. I'm sure it will all come out, as 3 people have been arrested, but why on earth did they target the womens hospital I wonder? -
Which 90s band are you regretting the last 25-30 years over?

I remember going to see Faithless at the Guildhall early 00s and the sound was just awful. Have they still got the speakers mounted half way up the wall like they used to be? It's a shame there aren't any better large venues in the city. That's one of the main reasons I jumped at the chance to move to Sheffield when I was offered it. There's some great venues here, but even we still miss out on some of the bigger names. Luckily Manchester is only an hour away by train, and if anyone is doing a UK tour they are pretty much guaranteed to be playing there. Saw Portishead at the Apollo when they made their 2008 comeback. Best gig of my life bar none. -
We were looking the better team but didn't look like scoring. Chelsea have players all across the park who can create something out of nothing, which we most certainly don't. We might well have held on for a draw, but like you say we'll never know.
-
More than that, we ended up losing a game we would probably have lost anyway (yeah we were playing ok up to the card but Chelsea have the kind of quality to create goals out of nothing that we lack), we got two wins and a draw during his 3 game suspension, and he got an enforced rest and came back looking fitter and sharper having been a bit off form after missing the pre-season friendlies. I thought it was harsh at the time, but in hindsight I think the ref actually did us a favour.

https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/19716029.report-southampton-one-three-teams-keen-jesse-lingard/ I doubt we'd be able to match his wage demands. He'll probably go to Newcastle in January I reckon.

I have a few mates in Leeds and they all tell me the best place for live music these days is the Brudenell social club. Keep meaning to get up there for a gig but not managed it yet. -
I was at the Sheff Utd game, and although he understandably looked a bit rusty, given it was his first game in English football, it was obvious he had something about him. He was let down quite badly by Valery having a mare at RB and constantly leaving him exposed. When I read the comments on here the next day, I was pretty amazed really. There were a number of people saying he looked awful and hopelessly out of his depth, but he really wasn't. Weirdly, the most negative comments of all seemed to be from people who weren't even there. And there weren't even any streams for that game! I get the sense that some people were desperate for him to fail so they could use that to justify their criticisms of the club's recruitment over the summer.

Not sure what it became / is now. I lived and worked in Reading only briefly in the 90s and haven't been back there since. I remember it was next to the Purple Turtle, which was a well known indie bar that a few of my work mates liked to frequent. It was a decent venue, on two floors IIRC. Love the Leadmill though. Been to quite a few gigs and club nights there since I moved up here in 2004. Best live music venue in South Yorkshire hands down. -

Story I heard was that when they refused to pack up and leave, the police charged the party with batons. -

Went to see them at the Alleycat in Reading around 1996. They were nearly 2 hours late coming on, apparently because they had overdone it a bit with the drugs backstage and needed to come down a bit before they could play! Never went to any Megadog events. Me and some mates did once drive all the way to Taunton for a Spiral Tribe free party, only to turn around immediately when we saw a police riot van parked on the lane and a group of lads coming down the hill with blood everywhere! -
Living up to his nickname of Fourpast then.

That could be sooner rather than later. Bednarek dropped out of the Poland squad for reasons unknown, and Jack won't be fit enough to slot right in and play 90 mins next week against Norwich if he is indeed available. No better game to give him his chance than against a potentially still managerless bottom of the table team.

I was spared from watching our 9-0 defeat to Leicester because I was watching Lamb play at the Leadmill in Sheffield that night. I definitely made the right choice!
