  1. The ozone layer was to do with different things like the use of CFC's which are now banned... so the ozone layer is repairing. Ozone layer depletion has NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING to do with global warming.
  2. Weather isn't climate. If you look at the world as a whole the world is warming. The greenhouse effect and global warming is a fact... we'd all be dead with out it. The area where there is dispute is whether humans are the cause of current rises in temperature. Anyone who denies the world is currently warming is a moron.
  3. Nigel Farage really hates Belgium.
  4. I'm not the legal system and as I said before crimes committed should be separate from him being an asylum seeker. That does not necessarily represent my personal opinion, but thank god that I am not the law and that the law is a neutral umpire.
  5. Being an asylum seeker and the crimes he committed are totally separate issues. I'm quite glad that justice in our country is not dished out by grieving relatives, now that would be a broken legal system.
  6. And so the troll inside consumed him and he became the troll.
  7. What really brings my **** to boil in this pure competition based world is pharmaceutical companies. They don't ****ing co-operate and share their research to ensure the quickest and best medicine for all. They want to get there first so they can have big profits. Off topic but it ****es me off.
  8. But you don't have to have pure socialism though. I'm just saying socialism as you think it is. Conservatism and Socialism are broad families... personally, I would not advocate total equality but what I would advocate is Equality of Opportunity, Social Justice(so some equality of outcome to remedy the unfairness of capitalism), tame capitalism a bit with PROPER regulation and also push for more co-operation between countries and people... I think this is what modern socialism is and most UK socialists would be of those views, not marxism which most people here seem to see socialism as.
  9. Socialism transcends boarders. The whole idea of socialism if any of you right wingers knew anything about it is that it needs to be in place on an extremely large scale as in worldwide for it to work. If capitalism still remains the main system a socialist state can not function to the degree it could. I'm not saying I advocate absolute equality, I just think people need to stop viewing everything through the goggles of capitalism.
  10. What about the Liberal Democrats?
  11. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11992034 Now THAT is a riot.
  12. This Jody McIntyre stuff is NOT looking good at all.
  13. The policy of two different hospitals is based on dumb logic. The logic becomes even dumber when they tried to prevent a kid who was about to die from getting a life saving operation.
  14. Fair play to his commitment, when we got relegated he had the opportunity to stay in the championship or go to the premiership as a back up keeper on easy money. However, for whatever reasons(probably settled family?, maybe loyalty to the club...) he stayed with us, and fair play. He has shown himself to be a true saint.
  15. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-11978884 How about this everyone?
  16. That was kind of my point to the last poster who said all of his friends were against the students. It's just the circles you are in. And I have had the benefit of being there, and seeing all the live videos/pictures/word reports afterwards. I have spent literally hours since the protest trawling all this stuff, reading and watching... I dare say that combined with my actual being there gives me a much more informed opinion of what lead to the violence. I believe I detailed this in an earlier post where I pinpointed 3 reasons. And no... I did not just blame the police, but I didn't just blame the students either. Read my posts.
  17. Anecdotal evidence does not work. Everyone who I have spoken to supports the students... really, you weren't there at the protests, you have just watched the news and news portrayal of this is for the most part disgusting, they ignored us until some chose to go down the route of civil disobedience, and then they just choose to show one thing over and over again. I was there, you were not, I know what happened and you do not. On the entirely separate and more damaging issue of the new system, mark my words, this is going to destroy the university system as we know it.
  18. I think you should read my post and then you would see that I am not simply blaming police tactics... it is certainly not the police's fault though, they are just doing their job? The tactics deployed though are stupid for reasons I have already explained several times. I used to be more towards your opinion and everyone else's opinion, but Thursday really opened my eyes and changed that.
  19. I will reiterate what I said earlier. Some of the violence of Thursday was caused by thugs who just wanted to cause violence. They turn up to every single protest and event doing so. They aren't students and have nothing to do with the cause. They are the 'usual suspects'. I condemn them. Some of the violence(though I would say violence is the wrong word here, civil disobedience I prefer), was caused by people who are extremely angry at the way things have unfolded. They see the destruction of the education system before them, and think that that is the way that will best get politicians attention (and to be fair, it is... no one cared about us until the 10th got a little bit violent) . I sympathise with these people. The damage to a few windows is bad... but not nearly as bad as the damage this policy will cause to the UK. And finally, some of the violence on Thursday was caused by police tactics which seemed to involve hitting people, sometimes indiscriminately, holding people for 10 hours in the freezing cold so tight they can't sit down or move and sending horses into dead ends(I experienced this)... the tactics need to change, and they were the cause of some of the violence on Thursday. Kettling makes everyone irate and scared, and as you said, the police 'are not robots'... this means in the atmosphere kettling creates they often lash out at innocent people. This culminated in the poor kid who needed brain surgery. I condemn Kettling. Leave an exit at the very least so people like me can get out... at the very least.
  20. Well, I have my own eyes? And the eyes of many others at the protest....
  21. Viking Warrior, I was not suggesting anything of the kind. Police who get attacked should attack back. However, you were not there on thursday when I saw police indiscriminately attacking protesters who had done nothing wrong, should they just stand there doing nothing back? I also want to say that I do not condone the actions of the one student who swung from the cenotaph union flag, but if you want to associate all students with one rich spoilt kid high on LSD, by all means go for it!
  22. Also, I get annoyed when Clegg and Cameron take the moral high ground on this kind of stuff. Cameron youth: Trashing restaurants and getting daddy to pay for it. Cause: Because he could. Clegg youth: Burnt down a conservatory containing RARE cacti. Cause: Prank.
  23. Great post.
  24. I won't condone the violence, but I am sympathetic to why many did it(some because of anger at tuition fees, some because of intimidation by the police, and some because they are 'the usual suspects). This policy will lead to many university closures and less graduates in the subjects we need to compete in the future world. This issue only became headline news because of the violence, no-one listens to a peaceful protest. I wish people would stop ****ing moaning about a few windows and look at the issue at hand and the devastation it will cause.
  25. I don't see why we should sit down and shut up just because we decided to protest. The protest was largely peaceful until the police started kettling and intimidating. They planned to kettle from the beginning again... and as I said before indiscriminately picking people out and hitting them with batons is not on. Especially if people are just standing there doing not much. After what I saw on Thursday, I'm shocked only one poor kid ended up having to have a life saving operation. The tactic needs to change, it's winds everyone up on both sides.
