The idea of an illegal war makes me laugh. War is war.

John McDonnell looks set to stand as well, if he can get enough nominations. He won't get in though... the unions will probably like him. I would have liked Jack Straw or Alan Johnson, but as they aren't standing, I guess Ed Miliband is a good choice, seems a bit more human than his brother, and bit more left wing as well.
-
Urggggh, and apparently he was set up as well. Why did the ****ing mail have to go and so this, the little rag of ****.
-
To be fair, in that photo, Pahars does look a bit like Wise.
-
Risqué? Is this what the mail thinks porn is?!
-
No, you increase the size of constituencies. It really isn't hard to understand, South East Hampshire could be a constituency for example.
-
Multi-Member constituencies... so if the tories are in the majority, they would get the most seats, but the people who did note vote with the people who voted tory are still represented. This is more often than not more than 50%, most MP's are not elected with the majority of people wanting them. Everyone is represented and no votes are wasted under STV.
-
Yes, so under STV, the 40% of people who say under FPTP would have elected just one MP leaving 60%(the majority) unrepresented would still get represented. It just means the 60% are also represented, what is wrong with that?
-
Well, tactical voting would probably cease and I think that would mean the Lib Dem vote net would go up, and so would parties like the Green party, but the main 2's vote wouldn't collapse either. Either way, the Lib Dem number of seats would still be 150+ under PR.
-
What a retarded point. It's the UK as a whole that matters, you are like those people who say the Conservatives have no right to rule in scotland, because they came 4th there, well Labour came 3rd in the south east region, does that mean that their 13 year premiership was illegitimate? Does Basingstoke having a Tory MP mean that no other party should ever have any say over what goes on here? No. As long as we are the UK, we have to represent the the UK as a whole, we are one big constituency if you like... But, I do see your point about constituent link(it is important), but remember under first past the post, normally more people voted against the incumbent MP than voted for it. This is why I like STV, most people get a representitive that speaks up for them.
-
Nearly 7,000,000 people still voted Liberal Democrat, only 3.8m short of the conservative tally... in PR they'd have 150 seats and much more say in what goes on. It annoys me that people really can't get their heads around more than 2 party politics.
-
'Oh **** lol, can't believe I'm actually PM. I know **** all'
-
In a straight CPL system, smaller parties would probs get more as everyone in the country would have the opportunity to vote for them. Under, STV, it's basically proportional and you keep the constituency link which is good.
-
AV is an improvement, but still hardly fair and no representive in a country where 35% of people do not vote for the main two parties. Infact, under 20% of people(turnout 65.3%) in this country actually voted for the tories and yet they could get into government with absolute power. It's ludicrous! In a multi party system FPTP is ****.
-
No, he wants PR. AV may be a compromise perhaps, but I can assure you he does not want AV, he wants STV and perhaps may also compromise to AMS or even AV+.
-
AV is not PR, it is infact sometimes less proportional than FPTP. It is maybe an improvement. Would probably benefit Lib Dems and Tories most, as UKIP will finish last in many seats and they will pick Tories as 2nd place most likely. I'd also suggest that the greens and other parties may finish last in a lot of constituencies and they would have 2nd choice as Lib Dems perhaps, but meh, that's just my thinking. Under AV the Lib Dems would have been the second biggest party in 1997 and the Tories literally wiped out and under 100 seats so it really isn't that great.
-
Liberal Democrats do not want AV, they want STV. Stop spouting ****. I'm a Liberal Democrat member, so I think I can speak for what we want. Kthnx bai.
-
Would people stop using this bull**** phrase 'unelected prime minister'. In the UK, we elect MPs who then lend legitimacy to a group of MPs form a government. It's called parliamentary democracy and if you don't like it change the system to what the USA has. If they wanted to 326 random mps could tomorrow form the **** party and they would be in government. Oh, and all this ******** about coalitions being awful. Political parties are coalitions full of tendencies and factions!!!! They all overlap and to be honest, everything and everyone is full of ****. The end.
-
First past the post only works in a 2 party system where 2 parties get 90% of the vote as was the case in the past. Now with only 65% voting for the main two parties, yet the main two parties achieving most of the seats, it is clear that the system does not work, is not fair and needs to change.

Jealously, because this forum is better.

1,000,000 more people voted Liberal Democrat this time round than in 2005. They did not do badly at all.

Possibly One of the Saddest Videos Ever.

According to a lot of the comments in that Video, the movements and behaviour demonstrated by the cat are in line with normal mating behaviour. So basically, the cat is trying to have sex with the other cat, nor resuscitate it with Human CPR. -
The Liberal Democrats don't have to help anyone. They should be more concerned with how best to represent the interests of the nearly 7 million people who voted for them.

is election reform really no.1 in the UKs priority
Saintandy666 replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Lounge
Same for many constituencies when the anti-tory vote in Lib Dems or Labour hadn't quite come together. -
