The reality is that we might be bidding for the same players as napoli, Liverpool, Spurs etc and might even be able to offer comparable wages. But these clubs all have a rich history of European footbal and challenging for trophies and are huge clubs. With all the will in the world the reality is we aren't. When Spurs qualified for the champions league we were in L1, when Liverpool last won champions league we were being relegated to the championship. With the TSW delision, some people on here seem to think that international footballers will take a look at Staplewood and spend 5 minutes in the company of Cortese and think he is the greatest man who ever lived and a club they had always dreamed of playing for, the reality is they wont.

We need someone who can do both, None of our current wide players can beat a man on the outside, they all cut in which made us very narrow and predictable at times last season.

Which is fine at home, but as Shurlock said, away from home when we are defending more it means we have little width going forward.

The problem is we don't have anyone that can beat anyone wide, Puncheon and Lallana can beat their men cutting inside Michael and Rodriguez has been at his most effective doing that. Ramriez has been ineffectual out wide and Mayuka ineffectual full stop. We don't need someone else who can cut inside, we need a player who can beat a man out wide. The only ones who can do this at the moment are our full backs when they get forward.

Sharp isn't a premier league player, however he could have done a job for us this season a sub coming on when we are chasing the game. He's a great poacher and might well have nicked us a couple of goals. The fact of the matter is that Sharp couldn't posibly have had any less of an impact than Mayuka has this season, the man who replaced him in the squad.
