The January 2013 HCDAJFU thread...
Saint Charlie replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
Harry Forrester linked - young attacking midfielder at Brentford, says we have been watching him. -
Anyone sure of who from the other teams will be called up? We will lose Mayuka, bit of a blow but he isn't a regular first teamer so not as bad as if QPR lose Tarrabt - hope he gets called up as he will accept: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20782428 Shame Senegal didn't qualify or Newcastle would be in all kinds of trouble. Tiote will be missing though. Kebe could be missing for Reading if he is called up by Mali. Players going if selected: PREMIER LEAGUE Arsenal Emmanuel Frimpong, Daniel Jesse Boateng (Ghana), Gervinho (Ivory Coast), Marouane Chamakh (Morocco) Aston Villa Karim El Ahmadi (Morocco) Chelsea John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses (Nigeria), Bertrand Traore (Burkina Faso) Fulham Mahamadou Diarra (Mali) Liverpool Oussama Assaidi (Morocco) Manchester City Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast) Newcastle United Cheick Tiote (Ivory Coast) Queens Park Rangers Samba Diakite (Mali), Adel Taarabt (Morocco) Tottenham Hotspur Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo) West Bromwich Albion Peter Odemwingie (Nigeria) West Ham United Modibo Maiga (Mali), Guy Demel (Ivory Coast) Wigan Athletic Arouna Kone (Ivory Coast)

Who or what has been significant in our turnaround?

Agree with this, better that way around IMO. -

Probably also that none of those players get in the team so have little to tweet about that is Saints related. -

Yeah, that one is so close to the edge! -
Thats what I mean - if NA doesn't say anything about a timescale for AL then Simon Peach or Solent won't know. They will report what they are told - if NA doesn't say a timeline then they have no other sources to find one out. That is why I am wary of anything you hear from Journalists following SFC - they get the knowledge that gets put on Saints Player a few hours before because they are in the Press Conf - but that aside, it doesn't seem they dig out any other information - or if they do they don't/won't/can't report it (in which case it isn't very useful). On the whole pack thing - everyone does this now. "I understand" etc when actually its "I have been told" or "Sky are reporting"... There is no Journalist following SFC that gets good exclusives because the club are (perhaps rightly) so tight, and there is no longstanding relationship between a particular journalist and the club which has allowed said Journo to develop unofficial sources. Again - this not against any individuals, just more about the press as a whole - especially since the advent of twitter.
-
Yes he is trsutworthy - but also he just reports what Saints tell him. When they are quiet he is quiet because NA and the media team are his source. Therefore he pretty much reports what the club want, ie what they tell him. When he "understands" something about Saints it is because Saints have told him, likewise Solent. The only journalist that seems to know about transfer targets etc is Nixon because he gets stuff from agents etc rather than just Saints.
-
Watched on SP - some great footy. Ward Prowse looked class as he should at this level and Ben Reeves seems to have a lot of time and composure on the ball. Only bizarre thing is that we have that agreement with Eastleigh to play u21 games there but the pitch looks awful. Staplewood pitch much better, makes the passing footy from last night an even better achievement.
-
And seeing as VMAN said AL's injury is very bad but not season threatening I would take that as the clearest indication we have so far.
-
I like their routine when they do actually manage to score. Couple of claps then play the music. Great stuff

He is close in that he interviews Adkins before and after games as part of the press conferences. The same Adkins who as we know gives little away unfortunately. As he is a Saints fan he usually asks decent questions. There is a Scottish guy from Sky who has been at the PC's recently and is a complete tool - never asks about Saints, just Adkins job security and other issues in football, constantly looking to trip NA up. What there isn't is a Journalist who finds out information that Saints do not themselves give out. -

Not sure what you mean. He is at most of the pressers so puts quotes from those on twitter which is handy. Ultimately no journalist is ITK about Saints anymore because the club are tight with info. Peach is no different, he reports what is said by Adkins etc, but rarely gets a sniff of anything else, exactly like the Echo don't etc. For me the only ones who have that little bit extra are Solent, I assume because the club chooses to feed them things every so often, and I know Adam Blackmore speaks to NC every so often - not aware any of the other Journalists ever do. -

For Saints: @solentsport - BBC Radio Solent Sport - decent Saints stuff @bigadamsport - Adam Blackmore from Solent - often has some good info @SimonPeach - posts on here, works for Press Assoc and has a line to Sibley Football: @henrywinter - Best Football Writer in the UK IMO @OliverKayTimes - Close second @GraemeBailey - Sky Website writer - good feed of news One to Avoid: @johncrossmirror - Writes for the Mirror (poorly) about Arsenal, basic knowledge of football, no knowledge of anything outside top 4 (and Arsenal). Who or what has been significant in our turnaround?
Saint Charlie replied to up and away's topic in The Saints
And that vital factor that is never mentioned on threads like this: a little bit of confidence. -
I am suprised they keep playing such a rigid 4-4-2. From their starting XI last night I actually don't think a single player would get in our lineup, and thats not an overeaction or bias.
-
Im not the one whose contributions on this thread have undermined the OP and most people's sense of humanity.
-
You really are spiteful. How you haven't been banned yet I will never know.
-
The U21 league is definitely a good step forward but can't help wondering whether the likes of Stephens, Reeves, Hoskins would be better out on loan in L1 playing proper pressure football in front of a crowd? Reeves for example is not overly young in football terms yet has probably two professional starts to his name.

Yep - would have been different terms for them than any other club. Wonder if we will go back for Phillips - his value has probably dropped a bit even, due to injury and form not being as good as last year. -
If you want to be an established Prem side then none of them are really good enough, even for the bench which is why most of them can't even make that.
-
Pretty accurate though.
-
£23.60 would be about right for me. The clubs charging over 40 quid are a disgrace.
-
Watford away he was good too. Gave Marriapa and Lloyd Doyley a torrid time.

Club Policy on the Communication of Player Injuries
Saint Charlie replied to HornseySaintsFan's topic in The Saints
It's the standard policy. The silly thing is that next Thursday in NAs press conference he will be asked about it and it will come out that he will be out for a while. Then it will be in the media that its a blow etc, and will put everyone on a downer before the crucial Sunderland game. If they just came out and said something this last week it would all be settled by the time the Sunderland game comes around. It's almost like the club are ashamed he is injured. -
Yes but don't tell the experts on here. They will tell you Guly or Jay Rodriguez would do a better job on the left flank!
