Some thoughts on last night... Started well and played some nice (and effective) football - however, once Bmuff cottoned on to this, they went in heavier and we were bullied out of many, later any, forward runs hence shutting us off from the creative route. Total naivety for the first goal - just bread and butter attention required. This is on RM and the coaches to get an "always-on" mentality instilled. Madness Deflected goals are always put down to "one of those things" - but we seem to be getting a lot of these against us in the last couple of seasons (statisticians please on this) - is that we are poorly coached again and not (albeit, not quite) in the right positions? Coaches again... Then the attitude totally went and we allowed them to waltz in for the third. Did anyone else see the lingering camera shot on Ramsdale after this? If he could be beamed off to anywhere else, he'd have taken it... He could read the lack of effort in front of him. it showed. Attitude - and again, one for the coaches and performance people to get right. The consolation goal was only achieved given that they totally came off the gas with the game well gone. Even then we largely looked bereft and second best. I'm done with the giving up on games and seemingly no attention to the basics. Being switched on, Positioning and Attitude. Martin looked cooked and needs to go if he hasn't lost the dressing room already, but with the clowns above I have little faith in what comes next. Can Dragan even see it with the shysters blowing smoke up his arse, for him to fully clear the decks? or maybe get a taxi along with the others?

PR on its own would generate endless deadlock, so no dice. However, this election like no other is exposing FPTP as skewed in the other direction. IIRC, Didn't the old EU elections have some constituency component (hence personal accountability) and some PR list component based on a wider region? A blended approach is possibly worth a look at as it would ensure that every vote has more potential to be recognised in the outcome and smaller parties get represented. FPTP works well where you have a localised base. Reforms problem is that they are polling well above the noise as a share of the vote, but are more geographically dispersed.

For all the “brave new worlders“ out there, the reality is that this election was all about electing who people hated least, rather than wanted most. The country is still on the financial skids following the pandemic, boats will still cross the channel, the world is still a increasingly dangerous place, and England will still probably play insipid football on Saturday. I’m off down the Winchester until this all blows over.

That’s plainly bollocks, as 2015 would have seen a Con/UKIP coalition to get to a majority. FPTP does skew, but allows for less beige governance - comme ci, comme ça….

Who? Reform? Labour has a 5 year mandate and that’s settled. But with voter fluidity, even Burnham is saying that voter patience will only last 100 days…

Interesting to see that if we’d adopted Proportional Representation in 2011 we’d be looking at Reform on 90 odd seats, Labour on just over 200 and the Liberals about where they are. Wonder if the clamor for it still exists in Liberal circles?
