Just read this in the telegraph about our season so far and the causes etc - less pressing and rubbish goalkeepers basically. Also you can read without paying if you block cookies from Telegraph so you dont get the sign up rubbish - works a treat https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/05/07/southamptons-decline-explained-tired-legs-less-pressing-goalkeeping/ "Another long-running issue for Southampton is the quality of their goalkeeping. One way to measure the quality of shot-stopping is using According to Opta's Expected Goals on Target metric. XGoT, unlike expected goals, is a post-shot model. That means it takes into account not just the location and quality of the shot, but the goalmouth location where the shot finishes, throwing out all those that are off target.Subtract goals conceded from XGoT faced, and you get a strong sense of which goalkeepers are conceding more than they should from the quality of shots faced. As a club, whether Alex McCarthy or Fraser Forster start, Southampton rank bottom of this metric. As individuals, McCarthy has conceded 50 goals from an XGoT faced of just 41.96. Only Crystal Palace's Vicente Guaita has a bigger negative differential in the league. Southampton should be in the market for a new No 1 this summer. "

You never know after Semmens comment in the forum about surprised the investment hasnt already happened maybe we have a budget that indulges this sort of quality luxury player. Also if Ings re-signs that might be a sign we are doing some things.

Just a random thought, Grady Diagana from West Brom for the Left wing position, has qualities that would work in our side. Probably too expensive even with Wet Brom going down but maybe Gao could ask their owners Also interesting from The Athletic this morning about Marc Guehi. The deadline to activate that clause was not until May 15 but Chelsea saw no reason to delay making a decision about a player who is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge and the subject of serious interest from Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace and Southampton, as well as Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga. Further talks about Guehi’s future will take place in the summer when Chelsea will decide whether to allow him to spend a third successive season on loan — he will almost certainly sign an extended contract on improved terms if that turns out to the case — or cash in on a player whose market value is expected to be in the region of £15-20 million.

He has played more minutes than any other southampton player in the last 4 seasons and has scored 18 goals.

Saints Fans Forum - Thursday, 6th May - 6-7pm
Convict Colony replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
To be honest i think those are major factors this season. I would phrase it as fixture congestion combined with our high energy style of play with a small squad with a lot of key players injured at the same time and some poor VAR officiating has impacted our season. -
Some interesting comments from Jurgen ahead of this game - Link plays from the specific comments

Not fussed He's obviously off been a good servant, think ings is more likely to re-sign given he is going to come back next week, Betrands been given the Hoj treatment until the end of the season. Need someone to offer what KWP does on the right to keep us balanced as its too predictable at the moment, infact the whole left side needs an upgrade.

Really dont think this league is maybe for him, I dont see him tackling, using body strength to win balls etc and whilst he would add quality we dont have the cash to splurge on a luxury player at the moment

Live pics of our summer transfer budget

Bro the apathy i have at the moment is mind blowing. It feels like we keep playing the same teams. If we dont play our fastest CB in this one I give up - Its time for the wall of Valladolid to get a game and put Stephens on his right as he's the best bollocker of players and officials we have.

Poster name to subject posted checks out

this is the sort of insight The Athletic used to provide with Carl but now I am more interested in Prost as they are creating interesting and unique looks at our games

Leicester had 6 cameras on our warm up and we made out we were doing 3 at the back. https://www.prostinternational.com/2021/05/01/smokescreen-warm-ups-sympathy-with-shoddy-var-and-putting-cheese-in-the-trap-southampton-have-got-a-plan-b/ Prost running the show so far for interesting Saints info

Apparently we wanted to loan him in Jan https://sempremilan.com/cm-southampton-and-stuttgart-came-forward-with-loan-offers-for-milan-winger-the-background

hahahhahahahahaha bro everyday i think that when i either come up with a name i've rabbit holed down and become an expert on or see one from someone else and i dont even play FM. God damn the transfer window is gonna be tough this year, no money and shopping in the 1 pound shop. Therefore in the spirit of that i think we need experience to replace ing's and bring on the younger strikers. So please step up Syrian national team striker Omar Al Somah, the pelle striker we've been missing. 11 goals in 21 games in the Saudi Arabian league, tall 1.92m 2 good feet he has it all. Would be a great option off the bench for plan b. This is a joke

Salisu and Stephens worked and communicated well i thought. Next game I'd have Mo and Jack as the CBs to see how they perform as Bedernak and Veest have had like nearly the whole season despite some comedy defending. Give these guys a go, Jack can still ping the ball a la veestie
-
yeah salisu to play as should stephens as I think he did very well and challenged the officials unlike silent bob JWP.

Just realised Alan Smith started his career at leciester, no wonder he's sucking them off
