  1. Not quite but David peach was selected to tour South America with England but then didn't get chosen to play.
  2. Actually Terry Paine played in goal several times - no subs back then so if the goalie was injured one of the players had to take over.
  3. So true!
  4. http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/137158/1/watch-southampton-fc-vs-wigan-athletic.html
  5. I can recall watching the 1959 Stripes vs Whites game and the advent of Huxford, Connor, O'Brien. The Stripes won 3 - 0 (or 3 - 1) in front of a sizable crowd. I think that Bob Charles was in goal for the Whites.
  6. Also Saints vs Man City in 1967.
  7. Perhaps he was just pedaling?
  8. Actually I believe that he does have some money but not 'Premier league' wealth - he might be a possible saviour at league 1 (or below) level...
  9. Indeed ... http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=424&fid=203&sty=2&act=1&mid=2114855293
  10. Something to think about ... ‎"What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?" Plato
  11. Try putting in context - it was a cup tie, he had been abused by 30 000 all afternoon and then scored what might have been the winning goal having made Beattie look like a novice centre forward all match, what would you expect him to do? What would would you have done in his shoes?
  12. Unlikely but if Pompey were to go out of business in the next week, we would lose two points and West Ham six - we would only two points needed then...

    Schneiderlin

That is also how I saw it but why not rewrite what happened so that Guly can be blamed?
  14. A review in The Guardian... http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2012/apr/04/our-food-sexism-in-football Sexism in Football? Well, yes, which perhaps isn't surprising but that doesn't make it any less depressing. It's just a shame, given the subject, that they got this dumb, giggling, groomed-to-the-eyeballs, appearance-obsessed, flicky-haired blond bimbo on to talk about it. Actually, to be fair, Robbie Savage isn't that bad – he's open and honest, and at least he agreed to take part.
  15. I have just called in to the BO (3:10) and was told that they did have a few earlier but they have now all gone.
  16. Which is why I said 'nearly always close' - some on here are assuming that we will walk that game because we are top and they are bottom (nearly). P.S. For your future sarcastic replies, the word is spelt 'embarrassed'.
  17. Spot on. The Pompey game will not be an easy one either - derbies are nearly always close.
  18. A monkey petting zoo, perhaps?
  19. You are good!!!

    Who are You?

65 next week. First away game was 1955; lost 2 - 3 to Aldershot. First home game was 1956; lost 2 - 5 to Norwich. Just as well there was no message board around back then for people to moan on! My mother was a fanatic (saw her first game in 1923 and her last one was the opening league match at SMS) - I really didn't stand a chance. I also went to St Mary's College which was a brilliant school back then for playing football - it's all we did.
  21. Could also be a problem if he has to fax in his application...
  22. Does anyone know the result of the Storrie trial?
  23. Meanwhile - there's some good comments about our investing in youth here ... http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/feb/03/the-secret-footballer
  24. Seeing Harry in a new light - really a weird experience...
