Christianity is a religion. Religion is the reason given for war. QED religion is responsible for war. * I've always found it strange how religion is used as a reason to kill people despite God being a peaceful, mercifull God.

One could argue that religion has caused many more of the worlds problems than it has solved and that aggression, violence and war go hand in hand with religion.

With the Lisbon Treaty now in force and the British people being denied the right to vote on it, should the Tories offer, if/when they come to power a referendum on remaining in the EU? Surely it would settle arguments one way or another, once and for all?

Prehaps it's because many feel that the belief in God by adults is as absurd as the belief, by adults of Father Christams or the Tooth Fairy? Afterall, the belief in God is an act of faith, not anything based on fact and many believe in the latter and have no time for the former.

I did actually, via PM, not to 19C, but to St Lard. I still maintain that 19C has many autistic tendencies, but using the Rainman tag on this thread was out of order.

Whilst I'm relaxed enough to not be bothered by peoples beliefs I do find myself thinking that they (believers) are odd at best and, shameful that it is, I find myself looking down on them with a degree of contempt.

If people want to believe in God then that's up to them. As long as they don't attempt to impose their beliefs on me then I've no issue in what church they follow.

I've been reading a report today that in Stoke-On-Trent the BNP is expected to increase its support by 50%, up to 18% of the electorate. The reasons for the increase is stated as: 1) The BNP councilors have done as they have said they would in certain neighbourhoods in terms on ensuring extra police, rubbish removal etc. 2) It is a direct reponse to more radical Muslim groups attempting to recruit in and around the Shelton area. Their heartland is in "traditional" working class, Labour, neighbourhoods.

Which doesn't alter the fact that a large number of people vote for them as a form of protest against the mainstream parties.

I liken the BNP to the NF in France. The NF were a protest party under Le Pen and when they actually looked like getting true power the electorate destroyed them. There is no chance of the BNP gaining a seat in Westminster, let alone power, but many disenfranchised voters want to register a protest and the BNP currently offers them that choice.

I don't agree with that. I'm red, in tooth and claw, like you but that doesn't mean I supported the war in Iraq nor many other of the current/recent policies. There are people, without a doubt, who have voted BNP as they have issues with current immigration policy, not because thay actually agree with BNP policies. It's a protest vote aimed at giving the mainstream parties a kick up the backside. I voted Liberal at the Euro elections, not because I wanted them to win but because I wanted the Labour party to understand that I/we were unhappy with the direction they've taken.

I agree but that area is currently our one weak spot and if I were a manager that is the area I'd look to exploit. That said, I'd sooner have our full backs playing with an attacking mindset as they are now.
