That's just untrue. Just look at their forums. Most are indifferent, and when they are bothered, it's mostly because they think they don't have much of a replacement.
-
If so, that is even worse with Gorkss gone elsewhere. We could have really missed out here.
-
Why is it a blatant lack of football knowledge to look at the reactions from many Bristol City Fans and give an initial reaction as underwhelmed by a signing whilst being fully prepared for that opinion to change once they have had a few games under their belt for SFC? What is the point of a forum if you can't give your initial reaction to a signing? Why are you so aggressive toward any sort of negative opinion?
-
Probably this. They are rather meh signings if these are the two we go for with no one else.
-
Yes but are they unhappy because they rated him or because he was the 'best of a bad bunch' (quoted from a City forum.)
-
Why is it staggering to hope for the best?
-
OK so it looks very likely we have signed him. Lets move on and hope for the best. Just one more signing does everyone think? Hopefully a significant striker purchase.
-
Rodriguez would be cracking too. Or Ebanks Blake I'm not fussy.
-
I hope so. Getting in a cracking attacking option would soften the blow of losing Gorkss.
-
Not since Cortese has come in. In the last two years, signings that have been seen as a major loss and decent by opposition fans on average, have been decent for us. Opposition fans views have been a good barometer (see S****horpe fans reaction for Forte and Exeter for Seaborne also.)
-
Of course you factor it in, but reading other fans comments you get an overall flavour of their opinion of a player. One great way to do it is to search for the player on that forum, then you get unbiased views from a few months previously. Gorkss for example had fantastic reviews from November last year from QPR fans. Palace fans were gutted on their forum, as were Bristol Rovers forums. OK you may get the odd people who play down their importance or say they are not needed, but you can still get a decent flavour of a player, as evidenced by the reactions to the signings of a number such as Fonte, Lambert and Cork etc.
-
That could be true for them. The majority were gutted to lose him though. They still talk about it now if you go and read a few topics on Rodriguez to Southampton. The impression I got from their forums was that they were losing an important and decent player.
-
Fail.
-
Cork was one example. Fonte is another if u want to use that instead. I had nothing to go on other than what other fans had said and I thought it was an excellent signing. And so it has proved. An initial reaction is something very different from an opinion after watching him for twenty games of course but then if you want to say no comment until twenty games in then there isn't much point in a forum.
-
No it is an initial reaction which may be right or wrong. An opinion based on the available evidence does not have infallible proof.
-
No it is an INITIAL opinion, not one set in stone that cannot be changed once he plays for us. Do you understand the difference? By the same token, I was very pleased with the cork signing. What did I have to base that on? Little apart from what burnley had said and how his play was described as well as being burnley's player of the season. It's exactly the sane thing and yet no one questioned why someone was pleased with the signing simply because it was something positive that you wanted to hear.
-
No they didn't. The vast vast majority were absolutely gutted to lose him. He was their player of the season. I think you were looking at the wrong forums or talking to the wrong people.
-
I don't know for certain but what I do know is that listening to both sets of fans and the fact that gorkss played the majority of games for a championship winning side he looks the better bet. Could be wrong of course but this is an initial reaction. I was extremely pleased with cork this window and have been proven correct and I was also underwhelmed by the seaborne transfer and was called an idiot by some despite history proving that ward was the errrr choice.
-
Why not do that but also form an initial opinion based on those who have seen him play week in week out for five years? Put it this way, I would be feeling a bit better about rejecting better players and going for this one if we had similar comments from fans like crystal palace with fonte or cork with burnley.
-
Getting Ward in would have meant there was no need to buy a CB now. It would have been the better deal and was clearly the way to go.
-
How sad for you.
-
All fair comments and thanks for the sensible reply. I suppose the frustration is that with the OC mooney in our pockets, we have the capability to really bring in proven quality and surprise a few (Maynard, Rodriguez) but instead it appears we are going down the promising youngster and potential route. Now there is nothing wrong with that but I would think that with our excellent start, that extra bit of proven quality might make the difference this year and propell us to promotion. Looking at it from that perspective, then getting in a big name but expensive striker would be worth it as the final piece of the jigsaw.
-
Erm no one has said this. You are inventing things in your head that you want to be true so you can have a moan. How sad.
-
Or I would possibly suggest not getting cms in when we had the chance (dependent on who we actually get this window of course).
-
Waghorn and Fontaine would be the underwhelming options for me and I'm not sure whether it improves what we have.
