Not many of our signings are widely known in the media long beforehand. That's my entire point. It's got nothing to do with clauses about dealing in secret and special Southampton Way methods of completing transfers.

Personally I'd rather we got someone in, even if it's a loan. Going into the season with our current attacking options would be amateurish considering it has been our top priority to sort the entire summer.

I'm not sure what point you're making now. My point was that we don't insist on silence in order to get a deal done and that the reason you don't hear much about our transfers is because they are lower profile and because mostly no one cares about saints. It seems with this reply that you agree that United are higher profile and so you are much more likely to hear about their transfers a long way in advance.

I hope we didn't put all our eggs in one basket with this fella considering how important attacking signings have been all summer.

That isn't what you said though was it. I There may be times where a bit of quiet is prudent but the main reason that we don't hear a lot about transfers is because Southampton are a small club making small deals for generally lower profile players. It's why you hear about United transfer dealings weeks in advance, not because they wouldn't prefer some quiet.

There are some fans who have really swallowed the club pr. The club have done a good job!

We are just so different and special with our transfer dealings compared to every other club. You never hear about our dealings in public and we have multiple decoys that we plant in the media to obscure our real dealings. We are geniuses.

No offence to you but imo that's bollocks. We aren't using it as a smokescreen we have clearly really badly wanted this player. It's not some sort of tactic.

I don't think we will be going down with the players we have and I still think we'll get someone alright on loan by the end of tomorrow if we lose out on Gakpo. The season will be a little bit meh imo even if meh is an upgrade on where we were previously.

It's gutting to have seemingly got so close and then to lose out partly because a big statement signing like this would seem to herald a new kind of era for us. It's still a good window if we miss out but it coukd have been an amazing one. Not over yet but it does feel less likely now.

Indeed. When it drags on like this u lose a bit of hope really. In many ways it would be better if these things just never came out.

I'd still like another striker option. On loan maybe but that could be greedy.

So that's the redmond and romeu replacements in the squad. Lb is a belated Bertrand replacement I suppose. Exciting times. Still need an attacker.

Wonder if he will replace Romeu. If we get the city lads it seems unlikely we'd need more fullback cover.
