  1. It’s nice to see that even at our lowest point for a few years, we can still call Dellhurst Park home.

Looks like a combination of improved air defence and network redundancy, as well as importing power from the EU, has made Ukraine’s power grid extremely resilient, judging by the replies to this.

Looks like they were expecting 120-odd from Russia’s preparations, but Russia didn’t have them. Looks like 15 got through.

What I want is irrelevant. They are, however, running out of money. https://www.reuters.com/markets/currencies/russian-rouble-falls-70-vs-dollar-sanctions-weigh-2022-12-27/ And ammo. So, supposing Iran and China’s miltech industries can keep up with NATO’s, what makes you think that they’ll be more willing to risk evading sanctions and supply Russia long term than NATO are to supply Ukraine?

Yeah, Russia really are running low, hence the smaller scale attacks, combined with Ukraine’s increasing ability to intercept them. Most impressive perhaps has been the reported 100% success rate for NASAMS. The US recently announced another two due to be sent to Ukraine. That’s perhaps a bigger help to them than the Patriot system announced.

At the moment the USA are seeing one of the biggest thorns in their side being defanged without risking a single US soldier for a fraction of the cost it’d take to do it themselves. Until recently the vast majority of what they’ve sent has been surplus stock that would have to be destroyed and replaced at some point. They’ve gradually been starting to send some of the good stuff as they can see the writing on the wall for Russia. Outside of the diminishing support that Trump still has, the rest of the Republicans that haven’t been compromised by Russia can see that too, hence the support is very bipartisan. If Russia are waiting for US support to dry up, they’re going to be waiting a long time. Russia already know this too, it was coming up on Russian state tv during the US midterm elections.

I agree that the justification for that war was thin, verging on being a war crime and possibly crossing that line. As in all wars civilians ended up being victims of collateral damage. Claims of civilians being targeted as a tactic, though, are very very far from the mark. That's the difference in what Russia are doing, and they're doing it during an invasion based on pretext with even less going for it.

Yeah, that one concentration camp we left standing for the Nazis was a shame, but...

You're the one making false claims of Western armies targeting civilians.

Ukraine don't feel like they need to compromise. It's almost like Russia isn't winning on any front.

    Russia

So do you think Russia's metric of success is 'how many Ukrainians can we leave without heat or water?'
  16. Jimmy_D

    Russia

So your train of thought here is what? Ukrainians are being terrorized by Russian missile attacks, so the solution is to assume that Ukrainians would be happier under Russian occupation?

    Russia

Go on then. It's 'not hard at all to look up' so give some documented examples.

Propping up a currency unsustainably, everything is ok… until it’s not. This might be one of the first signs of ‘not’ for the general population.

Sanctions have made the maintenance costs of everything higher for Russia, the breakeven point of oil for Russia will already have risen closer to $60 per barrel, and increasing production would only hasten that rising breakeven point. On top of that there’s only so much demand, logistics, and storage for Russian oil to China and India. There’s no magic bullet for Russia here, it’s going to be a further squeeze on them, with room to continue squeezing over time.

Looks like Russia attempted yet another wide range missile strike in revenge. It wasn’t completely stopped, but looks like Russia’s continually dwindling precision missile stock and Ukraine’s continually improving missile defence has tipped the balance a bit further in Ukraine’s favour, based on initial reports of damage caused.

    Russia

Reported explosions at Russian air bases extremely deep into Russian territory, following reports of Ukraine developing very long range drones, although the exact cause is still unknown. Entirely possible that Russia had assumed they were completely safe and moved air defence from them closer to Ukraine, trying to mitigate the losses they’ve been incurring since Ukraine got HARM systems.
