  1. I can’t tell if that’s a point gained or two points dropped for Burnley after that… Might not be until the end of the season we find out heh.

    Russia

Looks like Russia can’t sustain some of the capital controls they bought in to prop up the rouble, and as they’re starting to be relaxed the rouble is starting to lose value again.
  3. Probably trumped at the moment by their own promotion chances, but yeah, if they don’t make it, being in a lower league really won’t sit well.
  4. MK Dons, at home, in League One, going 3-0 down to a long range lob. They must have been getting flashbacks…
  5. That is a ridiculous goal to put Wednesday 3-0 up against MK Dons!
  6. Well that’s one way to break a winless streak Forster immense.

I saw that clip, it came across that they seem to almost be blaming Russian failures on it not being a war, that they’re not currently using everything they have.

    Dyche sacked

Seems like a very short sighted decision, feels like this probably reduces their chances of staying up.

Seen some speculation that US description earlier may have been to reduce the risk of triggering retaliatory strikes on Kyiv immediately, there were NATO delegates there at the time.

Reports that Russian ships are withdrawing further out into the Black Sea away from the Ukrainian coast, which lends credence to the claims it was a missile strike. It's still possible an accident took Moskva out of action and it's a reaction to losing the defensive capability it provided, but either way, it indicates that Russia thinks there's some sort of shore based threat to their ships.

It hasn't sunk, it's just on a special underwater operation.

Agreed, Neptune missiles the most likely cause, although it seems Ukraine may have had as few as four(!) of them and held onto them for this long, waiting for the best chance to use them. One way or another they've ended up taking down the biggest target in the Russian fleet. Sounds like this would have been the first time Neptunes have been used, so possibly Moskva had gotten a bit lax on maintaining constant defence systems and thought it had no threats.

That sounds more possible, the level of continued Ukrainian success so far in this war does suggest some sort of presence of Western Special Forces with plausible deniability, as well as significant Russian underperformance. Would be almost impossible to know for sure though, Ukraine does have the capability apparently, with Neptune missiles. Another possibility could be Russian sabotage, which if it was intended to scuttle the ship but not kill, could possibly tally up with Russian reports of a fire of unknown origin and no casualties, as they may have had far more of a warning to abandon ship. Any non-deliberate cause for a fire would be very unlikely to sink the ship, unless there were massive oversights on firefighting systems. Whichever it was, ALL of them were highly unlikely. I certainly didn't expect to see that the Russian flagship had been sunk by any cause during this war unless NATO were fully involved.

I guess it was a Royal Navy submarine that sunk the last cruiser before this one, in The Falklands War. I guess it's possible if it was almost certain that it couldn't be traced back to the Royal Navy, but it'd be a huge risk in terms of escalation. Seems highly unlikely.

Indeed. Either way, looks like the biggest naval threat Russia had in the area isn't a threat any more.

Reports now that the Moskova, Russia's flagship, has sunk after being struck by Ukrainian manufactured Neptune missiles. Assuming that's accurate, Russia just lost its flagship in a war as the aggressor against a country that doesn't have an active navy.

Looks like when the Russian flagship was told to go to hell at the start of the war, it was an accurate prediction.
  18. Half of Chelsea’s goals came from the ball dropping to them after good saves. Like I said, Saints were poor and Chelsea were good, and well worth the win, but we were unlucky to lose so heavily.
  19. Saints poor and unlucky, Chelsea good and lucky, ref poor. All ingredients for a fantastic day.

What makes you think possible Ukrainian warcrimes aren’t being condemned?
  21. Jimmy_D

    Russia

What point are you trying to make? No one is claiming that it’s impossible for Ukrainian soldiers to commit war crimes, or that they would be justified in doing so. There’s no indication that a blind eye is being turned to evidence of such incidents. One side does appear to be using war crimes, however, as part of their widespread deliberate tactics.

Just seen that. Russia obviously have incurred significant losses, but seeing a Russian official admit that was unexpected.

Wow. Russia suspended from the UN Human Rights Council in a vote. Probably largely symbolic, but it was still far from certain it’d go through, and it certainly sends a message as to how the World doesn’t share Russia’s ‘view’ of what’s happening.

The past 30 years have seen huge advances in renewables in the UK, and it’s still improving rapidly, enough that we’ve reduced coal use in the UK to almost nothing. At the end of last year the energy link to Norway was completed that’ll let our renewable capacity be used more of the time, due to their energy storage availability. Although it wouldn’t be ideal, a lot of that coal energy generating capacity is still there if there was no other choice. It’s only in recent years that renewable tech has gotten to the point where generating energy is competitive with fossil fuels. Millions of years of energy (all ultimately from the sun) and geologic processes have gone into creating an incredibly dense store of energy that’s been incredibly easy to access. Replacing that with tech that can capture and make available the same levels of energy more or less instantly without taking an incredibly long time to store it up isn’t so easy.
  25. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/premier-league/ The 538 sim still has Everton (marginally) more likely than not to stay up. They are more likely to go down than Burnley, and one of the three most likely to go down now though. Leeds still have a decent chance of going down and ruining any bet that’s hedged between Everton and Burnley.
