We've been given a limited edition signed print of Matt Le Tissier in action in the Man United home game of April 1996 (the grey shirts game - photos of the print attached to this post) to give away to one lucky SaintsWeb member. This prize is courtesy of the generous people at Art of Football (@Art_of_Football on Twitter). In order to be in with a chance of winning, you need to guess the time of the first goal (for either team) in the match against Aston Villa on Monday 24th November. Only one person can pick each available minute, you can only make one selection, and they're available on a first-come, first-served basis. For clarification, the official goal time as given on Sky Sports' coverage of the game will be the time used to adjudicate, and should there be no clear winner, the nearest answer will be declared the winner. If there are two picks that are equally close, the winner will be the one nearest in seconds (e.g. if the first goal is on 15:34 and the two nearest predictions are 14:01-15:00 and 16:01-17:00, 16:01-17:00 would win as 15:34 is closer to 16:01 than 15:00). ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED! 00:00-01:00 - Jimmy_D 01:01-02:00 - tisspahars 02:01-03:00 - sad saints fan 03:01-04:00 - westofshannonsaint 04:01-05:00 - lifeintheslowlane 05:01-06:00 - SaintSteve 06:01-07:00 - L_O_Z 07:01-08:00 - Guan 2.0 08:01-09:00 - Saint Martini 09:01-10:00 - Huffton 10:01-11:00 - Mattio 11:01-12:00 - sandwichsaint 12:01-13:00 - Baird of the land 13:01-14:00 - itchen_dan 14:01-15:00 - Sevvy 15:01-16:00 - Saxon 16:01-17:00 - St Chalet 17:01-18:00 - Saint-Armstrong 18:01-19:00 - Saint Lindford 19:01-20:00 - SaintSeb 20:01-21:00 - mrace777 21:01-22:00 - Jonnyboy 22:01-23:00 - yellow&blue 23:01-24:00 - hypochondriac 24:01-25:00 - KingdomCome 25:01-26:00 - shirleysfc 26:01-27:00 - Saint Garrett 27:01-28:00 - Colinjb 28:01-29:00 - LGTL 29:01-30:00 - St Columb Saint 30:01-31:00 - Ultimatt 31:01-32:00 - DatSaint 32:01-33:00 - Under Weststand 33:01-34:00 - RoswellSaint 34:01-35:00 - millsy 35:01-36:00 - DuncanRG 36:01-37:00 - Patrick Bateman 37:01-38:00 - ThreeSixty 38:01-39:00 - krissyboy31 39:01-40:00 - warsash saint 40:01-41:00 - workshy 41:01-42:00 - Electro 42:01-43:00 - Ewell 43:01-44:00 - Wiggles31 44:01-45:00 - scotty 45:01-Half Time - Saintletiss 45:00-46:00 - Saint-Fred 46:01-47:00 - Dark Munster 47:01-48:00 - TwoPints 48:01-49:00 - Minty 49:01-50:00 - Stu Man Do 50:01-51:00 - Scoobysaint 51:01-52:00 - The Cat 52:01-53:00 - Batman 53:01-54:00 - kwsaint 54:01-55:00 - mikec 55:01-56:00 - Hatch 56:01-57:00 - Hopkins 57:01-58:00 - nta786 58:01-59:00 - pjrossi 59:01-60:00 - Saint Charlie 60:01-61:00 - crouts81 61:01-62:00 - SaintPete 62:01-63:00 - sentry 63:01-64:00 - ant 64:01-65:00 - It's There 65:01-66:00 - saint_jas 66:01-67:00 - Doctoroncall 67:01-68:00 - InvictaSaint 68:01-69:00 - SaffaSaint 69:01-70:00 - Pamplemoose 70:01-71:00 - John Boy Saint 71:01-72:00 - Judge_B 72:01-73:00 - Spaceman Spiff 73:01-74:00 - OttawaSaint 74:01-75:00 - pemcil 75:01-76:00 - ibizasaint 76:01-77:00 - angelman 77:01-78:00 - CB Fry 78:01-79:00 - Bermuda Saint 79:01-80:00 - The Corellian 80:01-81:00 - stinhk 81:01-82:00 - trousers 82:01-83:00 - scott_saints 83:01-84:00 - Rut 84:01-85:00 - Lorne Malvo 85:01-86:00 - pangy 86:01-87:00 - USaint 87:01-88:00 - Ajv2809 88:01-89:00 - DarrenLeTiss 89:01-90:00 - Saints4Prem 90:01-Full Time - Saint_clark No Goal - SNSUN I'll endeavour to keep the list above updated, entries will be taken in order of the post ID. Is this still a problem?

The other 90% being Joe Lewis? Yes, he could, but they've worked together for the best part of 20 years, something would have to go massively tits-up for that to change, IMO. Lewis' only interest is the bottom line, and while Spurs continue to be financially sound, Levy will almost certainly have his full support.
-
Levy won't be leaving Spurs any time soon. ENIC, I think, owns 100% of Tottenham Hotspur, and Daniel Levy owns around 10% of ENIC. He'd have to sack himself.

Koeman has been pretty clear on this in recent press conferences, he's not interested in the Dutch job. They had their chance in the summer, he was under the impression he was going to get the job, then they went behind his back and appointed Hiddink instead. I'd imagine we're paying him significantly more than he'd be earning with the Dutch FA, and that job seems to have become a bit of a poisoned chalice after they somehow got third place in the World Cup in the summer - it would be nigh-on impossible to better that achievement at the Euros, many of the teams that underperformed in Brazil simply won't be that bad again on more familiar territory.
-
Since the PL was reduced to 20 teams in 1995, the average number of points earned by the team finishing 4th is 68.26, and 63.47 for 5th. However, 68 points would only have secured 7th place last season, and it wouldn't have definitely secured 4th place (i.e. at least a point ahead of the team that actually finished 4th) in any of the previous 8 seasons. In that time, the average points for 4th has been 71.88, which suggests a trend that the top 4 are getting further away from the teams lower down the league.

I don't necessarily think that's a bad way of running a national team. Club teams are more prone to good and bad runs of form because they play more games, and it's that prolonged form that generally gets you recognised and picked for the national team. If you then continue to perform (or, at least, don't do anything to deserve being dropped) then you keep your place. That's why Chambers played ahead of Clyne last month and I expect the same to happen on Saturday. Baines is Hodgson's first choice at the moment, hasn't played particularly badly for England (and his club form has improved dramatically in the last 6 weeks), and Shaw was second choice in the summer. It's then a toss-up between Gibbs and Bertrand, and I guess you could make the case that Gibbs has been playing better over a longer period of time, as he was decent last season as well whereas Bertrand was pretty average on loan at Villa. All he has to do is maintain his current performance level and make himself impossible to ignore, although he's unfortunate that left-back is one of the few positions where we do have genuine strength in depth.

One of the few ties where the little team gets drawn at home to the big boys.

Genuinely no idea. A lot depends on squad fitness, we've been relatively lucky so far this season that it's only Ward-Prowse who's been in the team and then on the treatment table (I've not included Rodriguez there as we didn't have him to begin with in August), and he plays in the position where we undoubtedly have the most depth. I wouldn't be especially surprised if we levelled out a bit and finished 8th again, albeit almost certainly closer to the top 4 than we've ever been in the PL era. Continued progress in the Capital One Cup could be a factor as well - let's face it, we're not far off being safe from relegation already, so if we managed to get to the final, all eyes and minds would be focused on that, which would almost certainly result in a dip in league form. For whatever reason, it seems to affect almost every team who wins the League Cup (Man City last season being the exception). I would be very pleasantly surprised if we ended in the top 4, it seems completely unfathomable that Spurs, Liverpool, Man United, Everton and Arsenal will continue to make a complete pig's ear of things in the league over an entire season. I could see us finishing above Everton, especially if they continue to pick their strongest XI in the Europa League and progress. Spurs have a stronger squad with which to cope with it, although Poch is doing a fine job of messing it up at the moment.
-
Absolutely agree. While we've maintained a lot of the good traits of that system, I think we use our energy more intelligently under Koeman. If an opponent wants to pass the ball among their back 4 and goalkeeper when they're 1-0 down, they're welcome to do so as they're absolutely no threat to us 80 yards from our goal.

Will clyne get a a start/cap in the next couple of England games?
stevegrant replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
Much like it's ridiculous to want a player in the squad on the strength of one or two good performances, it's also ridiculous to want a player dropped on the strength of one bad performance. Arsenal's back 4 is in a similar situation to Liverpool's in that it gets absolutely no protection from the midfield in front of them. Based on the last couple of qualifiers, the right-back slot is probably Chambers' to lose at the moment, and Hodgson almost certainly won't take his performance at Swansea in isolation when making that decision. Clyne should be in there on merit, and I'm sure he will get his chance, but it'll probably be at Celtic Park next week rather than Wembley on Saturday. -

This international break will be Lambert's swansong, I suspect. He'll get some game time at Celtic Park, and that'll be that. I'd imagine Chambers will probably play against Slovenia on Saturday, rightly or wrongly, but Clyne will play in Glasgow. It's a huge squad for two games, which suggests that there will be significant changes between the qualifier and the friendly. -

Saints vs Sheffield Utd (A) Capital One Quarter Final

Bloody glory hunters -
I don't think any of Pelle's 4 bookings this season have been for fouls, which will make it all the more frustrating if/when he eventually gets another one and has to miss the next game.

The lower tier holds 3000, and can't be segregated, so we should get at least that. In theory, they're supposed to offer us the upper tier for cup games as well, which would take it to 5000, but that's probably unrealistic given the time of year and location. -

Not yet, but Sheffield United play midweek games on Tuesdays where possible, and even if they were being dictated to by the Football League in order to keep an even balance for Tuesday and Wednesday, the Spurs game will be on Wednesday as they play on the preceding Sunday. I've booked my train and hotel for the Tuesday already. -
Judging by their fixture list this season, they play their home midweek games on a Tuesday where possible. They had to switch to Wednesday for the first round of this competition because Sheffield Wednesday were also at home, and despite their name they also tend to play on Tuesdays these days. As the higher-ranked club, I think they get priority.
-
TV games have been confirmed, Derby v Chelsea on the Tuesday and Bournemouth v Liverpool on the Wednesday. Pretty much nailed on that our game will be Tuesday with Spurs v Newcastle on Wednesday, as Spurs play on the preceding Sunday.

Saints vs Sheffield Utd (A) Capital One Quarter Final

Our game is almost certain to be on the Tuesday, along with Derby v Chelsea. On the preceding Sunday, it's Man United v Liverpool and Swansea v Spurs, so both Liverpool and Spurs will probably be given the extra day. All the other 6 teams in the quarter-finals play on the Saturday. Tuesday 16th: Derby v Chelsea (TV) Sheffield United v Saints Wednesday 17th: Bournemouth v Liverpool (TV) Tottenham v Newcastle -
The lower tier holds 3000, which I would imagine would be about right. First dibs to those with 3 or more aways (all competitions), but realistically anyone who wants a ticket will get one.
