Which are the points that seem to get overlooked. Mellis might be a disappointment thus far but I have no complaints about the other SIX signings in about as many weeks. I think it is totally out of order to criticise Pardew as I'm not sure how much time he'd have to sleep given he also has other things to do, only trivial mind you like selecting the team, trying to get them to gel in training etc etc;

Yes, it would be nice to know why though it's just possible that information can't be disclosed as yet as things might still be in the pipeline. I'm sure Pardew will make a statement at some point though 7.30am is a bit early TBH !

The work permit should never have been refused in the first place, it's a done deal effectively and exactly the type of defender we need and on a permanent basis. Still time to bring in one or two more players IF the right ones are available, I somehow doubt we'll be making signings just to keep people on here happy !

Agreed and as I stated elsewhere players with pace and skill are not exactly easy to acquire and the more so at our level.

They must have been crap as I can only remember Robertson ever playing for us ! No wonder Stoke released Pericard and Bristol City ( I think) didn't want him after a trial !

I'm not sure what your point is TBH as I agreed we need pace but not without a certain degree of skill to go with it and just for the record I was quite a decent winger in my youth and know exactly what is needed though it's not rocket science anyway !!

Don't disagree with that TBH but we had a certain Nathan Dyer and what a look of stick he took. I love wing men, Tommy Jenkins is one of my all time favourite players and despite the fact even he didn't know what he was doing himself half the time he was still a good player. Unfortunately pace without skill and an end product is of little use, if we want just sheer pace we could always sign Dwain Chambers if Usain Bolt is not available!

It seems unlikely we'll secure a permanent signing at this stage. However, am I the only one who isn't surprised by this ? Disappointed yes but surprised no. Good players who are available are in short supply, we don't have any divine right to sign those that are available. Apparently some people on here are better at Pardew at knowing where we need strengthening. Really ? Then I'm flabergasted you haven't gone into football management as it is so easy. Identify who we need, phone them up and get them to sign. Easy, don't worry about salaries, have as much as you like. Oh, your club want a fee, no problem either we are made of money. The amount of nonsense on this board is staggering and why do so many people only ever see negatives and anyone who dare say something positive is deemed to be "happy clappy" whatever that exactly means. Maybe, just maybe some of us enjoy supporting Saints, are glad we have a club to support and realise that you only truly appreciate the good times when you suffer the bad times. To be honest 27 years of top flight football was some achievement and relegation at some point for a club like us was always a possibility. Of course the constant changing of managers, gross mismanagement and over spending just made things that much worse. I've supported Saints for 45 years, it's in my blood and it hurts when we struggle. However, there are more important things in life than football and it really is not a matter of life and death. So I'll continue to be positive if that's Ok with the trolls who pervade this board. It really is time not only for a reality check but to get a life and take the highs and lows of supporting Saints as they come.
