  1. I think the 'U19' bit in the team title may well answer that question .
  2. In all honesty the fact that George Burley appears to be failing as Scotland Manager wont come as a surprise to most on here , although it's highly arguable whether Scotland have enough good players available to do very much with even the best possible manager . I personally take no pleasure in seeing GB struggle however , he always seemed to me to be a decent football man trying to do his best , his best unfortunately seems to be not quite good enough anymore . As there's clearly no realistic prospect of George Burley's return to SFC so I see no point in even discussing it .
  3. With young players what they've achieved has very little to do with it - what had Walcott or Bale won before we transferred them for big money ? The real question is 'what could they achieve' ? - with Kenwyne the likelihood that he could play successfully in the EPL seemed pretty obvious to some on here (but one doesn't like to brag obviously) and I shall continue to maintain Sunderland got him on the cheap . Ain't player power a bit*h . The problem with KJ is that he's not a true natural striker , for all his pace , formidable strength and outstanding aerial ability I doubt he'll get the 20+ goals a season he should really based on his potential . Just a bit of fun and purely a hypothetical scenario but if Kenwyne were English I think he could fulfill exactly the same kind of role England currently employ Emile Heskey for - except Jones could probably do it better .
  4. Never mind , only another 4 years until his contract expires .
  5. You know my friend I actually agree with nearly all of the above , the only element I can't accept is that because our game has manifestly greater corruption at its very heart (both historically and today) this means MLT's actions should be overlooked or somehow excused . It's really not much of a defence saying "they're all at it guv" - at least that's not a argument any decent barrister would use in court with a realistic expectation of success . I'm not interested in 'vilifying' MLT , despite this error of judgment he was and remains a far better man than me (and quite a few others on here I guess) , all I can say is that when a friend strays off the 'straight and narrow' their true pals tell them so , to do otherwise does them no favours . My final word on the subject (hooray! I hear) is that if the price of freedom is eternal vigilance then the price of a 'clean' game should be an ingrained intolerance of corruption (however minor) throughout the game .
  6. This kind of argument (Moral Relativism) in its extreme form would of course mean that no moral judgments of any kind are ever valid or acceptable . In this world where nothing can be called wrong then everything must be right then eh ? - I put it to you Sir that that is nonsense . Yes every adult human being has 'sinned' and human weakness is universal but does that mean that anything goes now ? If you really think that then I suggest you excuse yourself from Jury service should you ever get the call . For those on here glibly throwing around phrases such as 'hypercritical' or 'self righteous' please point out the posts where someone has actually claimed to be a morally outstanding individual free of all human vice , you'll have to look pretty hard though .
  7. What so many of you lot on here utterly fail to realise is that if you tolerate low level corruption in the game then before long it will inevitably spread into far more pernicious forms - all human experience teaches us this . This road leads to fans starting to question the true motivations behind everything - that penalty the ref turned down - the open goal the striker missed - the match that was abandoned when the lights failed ... pretty soon the lack of trust becomes universal and the continuation of the game itself is called into question . No honest person should view conspiracy to defraud as a trivial matter , what you think of Bookmakers has nothing to do with it . Integrity is everything in sport - you really , really should care about this .
  8. Desperately disappointing to see quite so many apologists on here today , this inexplicable readiness to tolerate or excuse corruption displays a staggering lack of understanding of the crucial importance of sporting integrity and a complete lack of comprehension of the eventual ruin of our beloved game that must surly follow this type of dishonesty . I see no good purpose in it at all - they are quite literally trying to defend the indefensible . Nevertheless MLT was , is , and will always remain a player of near heroic stature for many Saints fans but his sorry tale proves that like nearly all of mans hero's he has 'feet of clay' unfortunately - just like the rest of us .
  9. No it is a big deal . Corruption starts with this apparently harmless throw in scam and before long goalkeepers are betting on when the first goal is conceded and outfield players on the first yellow card ..etc - eventually the whole game is turned into a cesspit - this is VERY serious matter and quite indefensible in my view .
  10. This form of corruption can't be defended or tolerated in the game - he should be ashamed of himself .
  11. IIRC the stadium repayment was closer to £2m pa , there also would be a (much smaller) interest payment to Barclay's re the 'overdraft' . On balance the wage bill /debt interest reductions (Rasiak & Euell ..etc were on big money) and a modest profit on player trading (c £1m) might just leave us somewhere near the break even point this year .
  12. It was the second of September . That day I'll always remember , yes I will . 'Cause that was the day that my Papa signed . I never had a chance to see him . Never heard nothing but good things about him . Pardew , We're depending on you , please show us the way.
  13. He certainly will be missed , you'll get no argument from me on that . As for getting an authoritative answer as to how long he'll be out the silence from our 'ITKers' on here is quit deafening and it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that even the clubs medical staff don't know yet . If you want a guess I'd say the lack of any updates might indicate that the injury may well be career threatening - if we sign a loan RB soon that will be as good indication as any of the seriousness of GM's injury .
  14. I would put the chances of Saganowski not being loaned out when the 'loan window' reopens at no better than 50-50 .
  15. "N'Diaye-ee , N'Diaye-ee Wipe the tear , baby dear , from your eye-ee ! Tho' it's hard to score I know , I'll be tickled to death to go . Don't cry-ee, don't sigh-ee , There's a silver lining in the sky-ee , Bonsoir, old thing , cheer-i-o, chin, chin , Nap-poo, too-dle-oo , Good Diayeeee . Copywrite Chapel End Productions 2009 .
  16. I see his career is going from strength to strength . Apparently he made 1 appearance for Lille OSC last season and is now on loan at 2nd Division Le Havre .
  17. Fringe Field Switching ? , I don't see the relevance to be honest .
  18. The jury's still out on Mellis but the rest are (or at least seem to be) good business . We've a few in the squad (Molyneux Pulis Bialkowski) who could have probably been shipped out in a ideal world but all in all Pardrew's done well I'd say . Financially we've actually made a profit of around £1.5m this summer so Mr Liebherr should be happy : Income* - c £3m (Dyer DMG Surman Rasiak) Expenditure** - c £1.5m (Lambert Hammond) * Rasiak fee undisclosed but probably £250-500k . This takes no account of likely saving on player wage bill . ** Excluding any unknown loan fees , signing on bonus's etc...
  19. The official view for those too lazy to check : http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/Suspensions/0,,10280,00.html
  20. I understand the Government's 'Srappage' scheme is still in operation .
  21. On the contrary I find this post quite pointless . The point in question is not that the appalling scheduled BBC programme is worse than its ITV predecessor (although it may well be) nor is it that I can't employ a TV recorder (I can thanks) - the issue is that today's coverage is no advance over what went before . The poor Football League coverage in the past at least had the considerable advantage of coming at no cost to its audience , the same consolation cannot be said of a licence fee funded BBC service . Like Oliver in 'Oliver Twist' I want more Sir .
  22. I'll tell you exactly what I want so that you and I are absolutely clear on the subject . I would like to watch a proper highlights programme broadcast at a reasonable time on a Saturday night - as I'm paying for my share of BBC's Football League coverage via the licence fee I don't see why I should not be entitled to an opinion on the subject nor do I see why you Sir should take umbrage at such a relatively simple (and easily accommodated) request . It remains my opinion that the current arrangements are certainly no better than ITV's coverage and quite possibly worse . You may well be satisfied with the BBC's coverage - good for you - I was hoping for something better .
  23. How many digital channels do the BBC have now - 4 is it ? most showing endless repeats . I don't accept the current BBC Football League broadcast arrangements are all they could be or even acceptable . If they don't want to broadcast a proper programme at a reasonable time then they shouldn't have bidded for the rights in the first place . A lot of the younger people on here have to realise that as you get older your ability to 'burn the midnight oil' will inevitably decrease - believe it or not it'll happen to you one day too .
  24. Fair comment I'd say .
  25. When I get a pay rise shipmate .
