  1. Agreed - it's way too early to panic and I'm keeping the faith . Having said that the situation is pretty depressing to be honest and 3 points on Saturday would be very welcome and would go along way towards getting this points deficit 'monkey' off our backs .
  2. That's player power for you - if a player wants to go and refuses to sign a contract extension then his club is virtually forced into selling him . Lets hope he doesn't try the same on us when the time comes - wouldn't want to bet on it mind you .
  3. Moderately interesting interview with our latest signing - so far . http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1759074,00.html Says he could well stay all season if everything goes well and that Jack Cork recommended SFC to him .
  4. This is a done deal according to the Colchester Chairman , who appears to be having a rather busy day . http://www.eveningstar.co.uk/content/eveningstar/sport/general/story.aspx?brand=ESTOnline&category=Sport&tBrand=ESTOnline&tCategory=xDefault&itemid=IPED18%20Aug%202009%2016%3A44%3A50%3A557
  5. Time to try out a 5 man midfield in away matches ?
  6. Speculation just doesn't get much wilder (or less likely IMO) than this - well done .
  7. Does anybody boo him ? - can't say I've heard any of that myself .
  8. I think I can speak for the whole forum when I say what an enormous privilege it is you grace us with your presence at all , even if it's just on a part time basis from now on . If only more on here could be as non condescending and not at all supercilious as your good-self this site would be an immeasurably better place .
  9. Early days indeed , the only glimmer of hope I see for your club is that the likes of Alan Hanson and Mark Lawrenson are convinced you're going down - they're more often wrong than right . No offence intended but if you're looking for sympathy I suspect this might not be the best place to look .
  10. Against middling opposition at home Pompey got off to the expected poor start yesterday . Extract from the Sunday Times : http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/portsmouth/article6797574.ece The above as well as being very funny this goal proves yet again beyond any doubt that the Gods of football never grant teams that desperately need luck any of that most elusive of favours . MOTD may well prove to be unusually amusing this season .
  11. Absolutely right . This team is so much a 'work in progress' that any despondency now is ridiculously premature . You always learn more from a defeat compared to a victory . Yes the club needs more (more importantly better) players but there's more to come from the existing squad . 'Fish' Mills and very possibly Lee Holmes will improve the team , Alan Pardew needs time to evaluate what he has and to get them to gel (yes that old footballing excuse) . Those who don't really want to be here need to be shipped out at the earliest opportunity - certain players don't even look fully fit yet . These problems are the direct result of the summers protected takeover saga (lets call it the Pinnacle Effect) - in many ways we're two months behind our competitors in this league and it going to take more time than that to fully catch up I'm afraid . All we can do in the meantime is to keep the faith , we have a good manager , we have a super new owner who's running the club in a uber professional manner , believe it or not we even have some good players . To my mind all that adds up to almost inevitable long term success , it just not going to happen overnight unfortunately .
  12. Let's face it Wotton was past it even before he arrived last season and he's hardly likely to be a better player 12 months on . I don't blame PW at all , he's gives you everything he's got it's just that he hasn't got very much to offer anymore . Free transfers are a minefield - you can end up with useful players such as Murty of Harding or (more often) you get the Paul Wottons of this world . Many would say the fact that this player never (even in his prime) achieved very much in the game was a pretty good clue we were looking at another journeyman midfielder here and that signing him was an error that could/should have been avoided . Those responsible for this transfer are long gone now (I hope) but the consequences of their actions live on unfortunately . I'd draw the analogy of buying a £100 car - cheap to buy but it'll let you down all the time and the money spent on keeping it going is money wasted . Although Alan Pardew may have a strange predilection for selecting this player he didn't sign him - the crucial importance of overhauling the clubs scouting system so that we can avoid this type of mistake in future can hardly be overstated .
  13. Good to see the public damage his ego recived is still hurting - something tells me it'll recover .
  14. Staight into the thick of it according to this : http://www.teletext.co.uk/football/news/fd2107519c31be98a93ad9bd6c3ce33d/Accrington+Stanley+v+Lincoln.aspx It'll be interesting to see how he gets on in what must be his first appearence in League football .
  15. Never heard a coach admit that he was 'happy' his former club were relegated before  - I'll respond by restating that the vast majority of Saints fans were even more happy to see the back of you Jan Poortvliet . Tragic that you lost money coming over here , let's get the buckets out again and have a whip round . I understand the minimum wage is about £5.97 an hour - all you're worth to be honest .
  16. Newsflash.........The Paul Wotton fan club hire a suitable vehicle for their annual trip to the seaside :
  17. I'd expect a promising young player from a major club like Chelsea to be loaned out to the Championship or even a lower level EPL club , so it may well be something of a minor coup that we've nabbed him . Let's wait and see how good he is before getting too carried away again , he could be another Jack Cork - or Adam Hammill .
  18. I was hoping we could keep the fact that we Chapelites get season tickets for £40 less than fans behind the other goal a secret - we're already unpopular enough as it is .
  19. At his age and with his less than impressive scoring record in recent seasons £500k would be a good deal for us . Combined with the £15k a week wages saved this would give Alan Pardew over £1m to spend on a replacement striker . Take the money and run I say .
  20. That whole (unscourced naturaly) quote must be seen as a tissue of lies from start to finish , the sheer improbability of the claims made and the OP's inability to employ even basic punctuation must lead to the conclusion that he's unlikely to move in the world of high finance or enjoy the confidence of the Football League's leadership . More likely he's just another bitter little fantasist typing rubbish in some dank Fratton bedsit . I ask you is there anybody anywhere who really believes that Markus Liebherr is the type of man who can honesty be described as a "chancer trying to make a quick buck" ? - I think this deluded Skate must be confusing us with his own basket case club . That may not be a 'FACT' but it's certainly a pretty good bet .
  21. As the season is only 2 games old it may well be a tad premature calling this a career crisis for Simon Gillett . While I recognise his technical limitations SG's 100% commitment to the cause and super attitude go along way towards meriting his inclusion . As for comparing Gillett with Wotton I'd say both have a similar level of ability but Gillett being much younger and more mobile has more to offer the team . Paul Wotton is a honest enough pro but time has not only caught up with him , it's overtaken him and can now see him disappearing in its rear view mirror .
  22. One of those players that exist on the borderline between ordinary and better than average . Good luck to him .
  23. Very harsh and an opinion not many on here share it would seem .
  24. This is true , JPS is certainly prone to the occasional rash challenge which is hardly desirable in a defender - on the other hand apart from this his defending is top class . Worth the risk many would say . Look at the awful errors Rio Ferdinand and Gareth Barry made for England last night - however good they are they all make mistakes .
  25. There may or may not be a forum member called Schrodinger's Cat , he simultaneously exists and yet somehow doesn't exist - the very act of observing him changes his status . If he were ever to join the Charlton Forum the implications for the Universal Constant (at the quantum level at least) are quite profound .
