We're digressing somewhat although there are some interesting parallels between the two clubs. Redknapp went to Spurs when they were in the bottom 3 having tried the Director of Football ('Continental way') with Damien Comolli (?) and Levy needed a quick fix. There's no way Redknapp would have gone there with that set-up and it seemed he got his way, convinced Levy he could sort the situation - as long as he had full control.....

I would imagine it would take a lot of 'give' on both sides and maybe they could put up with each other in the short term for a mutual benefit but I couldn't see it lasting long. Maybe it could be the stop-gap we need but it didn't work out last time Harry came to save us.

If we are to believe some of the stories of Cortese stewardship and management style it seems inconceivable that he and Redknapp could work together. If, of course, that is the case.

It will be a Continental manager, possibly Italian, who is used to working in a southern Continental club structure where he is Head Coach and that alone.

Adkins rates him so much he tried to get a replacement during the summer and has been happy to play the right-back there instead of a fit specialist left-back.

I think we'll see a Continental style appointment, possibly an Italian who will be Head Coach but no more. He will be in charge of the team on a Saturday, no more no less.

That's not really the point as I'm sure you know. If you are the Manager and you make the decisions and have full control then on your head be it. If you're just a figure-head a-la the traditional Continental model then it's a bit harsh to take the can.

Adkins gave Nicola a list of 12 players to go for in the summer. He didn't get any of them.
