Will this post get to 1500 pages by 10 August?

It will quickly become very routine. So much so that you won't get wound up by the inevitable delays that periodically happen. The worst bit is when the hotel and airline staff greet you by name. Thats when it is time to find something else to do.

Bad management and dodgy dealing is nothing new at Pompey. It didn't start when Mandaric sold the club to Gaydamak, although the scale of recent years is staggering. They have a history of it. Back in the sixties they had financial problems and scrapped the youth team. Those released/missed included ex-Saints Mick Mills, Bobby Stokes and Steve Mills. Really short term decision. Then again in the seventies they tried to buy promotion to the then First Division. Expensive failures such as Peter Marinello meant that Ian St John ended up throwing kids such as a young Chris Kamara into the team. Ended up getting relegated to Division 3 in 1976. When David Deacon was chairman he threw huge sums of money at the club. He was taking the profits from his other companies and using them to subsidise Pompey. I guess that there may have been tax benefits in doing this but he ended up having to stop doing it and selling up. Meanwhile no-one spent any money on the ground or facilities. Saints, meanwhile, have generally been run on a sound financial footing, apart from the stunning ineptitude of the Crouch/Wilde era. Even Rupert Lowe, who should never have been let anywhere near the club for lots of other reasons, managed the finances OK My personal view is that they should be liquidated ASAP, get the PST to start a phoenix club, and run the club properly along the same lines as AFC Wimbledon and see how far they can get. Along with the obnoxious knuckle-dragging minority, they do have decent supporters (including my next door neightbour) who deserve better. They hate the current owners every bit as much as we do. Not sure if many will agree with the above sentiments, but I kind of think that there are limits to schadenfreude. Can't see much point in having local rivals if you don't get to play them and give them a good beating every now and then.

What band do you think sums up the fall and rise of Southampton? Was thinking R.E.M (everybody hurts, shiny happy people etc.)
-
happened to me as well so am assuming that there doing it so they can put everyone in the same place rather than have them scattered around the stadium.

Although not strictly saints related, to me it gives me a warm feeling to think that we aren't in any debt and are owned by one company. Compared to others', our administration went quite smoothly indeed. WWIFM

Name your child Nigel Adkins? Camp in a tent outside SMS? Refuse to eat food that wasn't touched by Jose Fonte?

It's gonna be a long long summer...

Alas, the time has come again. I know last time we were in the membership we had 30k+ memberships. Surely a good money making scheme by the club and to distingush between those who go to 10 games and those who go to 1 or 2. Your thoughts?

Now that Bialkowski has been released, and presumably Forecast would also have gone if he wasn't on such a long contract, who do you think that we will get in? Your thoughts?

Ranging from his Twitter posts to his footballing career, it will be a shame that Jaidi is leaving. It's not really a suprise to anyone but he has been a great defender and the only person in the saints squad who has ever featured in a world cup. He will be missed.

Just postpones the inevitable.

Our 'friends' down the road are expecting that nice Mr Chanrai to pitch in at any moment. He does not expect to get his money back if they are liquidated, so will step in so that he gets the parachute payments, while increasing the overall debt. Once the parachute payments stop he will then walk away again, and it really will be the end. My view is that it would be better if they started completely again now, and got the crooks out of the club. We might have a bit more respect for them if they did that and it was run as a proper club, and worked their way back up through the divisions.

Right, either I don't go on here enough or I don't remember them. Anyhow, I feel a list of all the acronyms used on Saints Web would be much appretiated for the off and on user. E.g. WIFM...

Just read the last page of posts. I have no idea what this thread is about.

Couple more memories - One of Le Tiss's brothers hit the crossbar from way out, it was shaking for ages. He looked as if he could have been quite useful in his younger days - 32,000 people going quiet watching the goal montage on the big screen. I think that is when it hit us that it really was the end
