Are you sure you know what a fire sale actually is? I'd love to know how £30m for an 18 year old counts as one.
-
Yes, because there are no examples anywhere of any player suddenly playing a lot better for a new manager. None. Nada.
-
Got to say, pretty excited about this. Though I did think that Strachan was going to be an absolute disaster, so what do I know?
-
Just curious; what was your response to hiring Strachan?
-
Maybe I'm being daft, but wouldn't KL get a lot more money by selling the club as a going concern with as many of its star players as possible, rather than asset stripping?

At the risk of attempting to introduce exactly what Savage said, he was talking about the fifth striker in the squad as someone you would be bringing on with 20 minutes left if you really needed to change the game (I presume he means chasing a losing game, so more high and long balls into the box), and so out of Carroll and Lambert, Carroll is more likely to change a game in that way. I would have to say that with those as the terms of reference for the debate, he's probably correct. Where I would disagree with him is about Lambert challenging for the fifth spot. I'd say that he'd be a better pick than Sturridge or Welbeck as one of the other four strikers.

A couple of us are going up from Birmingham, so there's space in the car for three more. I don't know if tickets are available on the gate, but if they are and you fancy a last minute trip, we'll be leaving Kings Heath about 12:30. I'll check this thread before we leave.

Sorry, Col, you're second in the queue, I'm afraid. If it falls through, I'll post here. Cheers for the interest though!

Not technically selling these, but need the space in the house, so these are either going to the recycling in a few hours, unless someone wants them. Basically, I've got most of the match programs from 1994, 95 and 96, including a fair few away matches, as well as some issues of Red Stripe, The Ugly Inside and Beautiful South. If you want them for free, let me know, and I'll bring them down to Southampton the next time I'm down (probably the Barnsley match)
-
Oh good, was hoping it would be alright! Hope you like them.

I hope that it's alright to post some blatant self-promotion here, but there is a Saints link! Even though I don't post that much these days, I'm sure that a few of you know me. Anyway, I run a record label called Hero Records, though it was originally called Hero No.7, and I'm sure that guess what that name refers to. Hero No.7 is the name of our group now, hence the label name change. Anyway, after a slight break of, ahem, five years, we're putting some music out again. It's mostly funky breaks, a bit of hip hop, so if that kind of stuff's your bag, then feel free to check out our online store at http://shop.herorecords.co.uk/ You can listen to the full tracks there, so you can see if you like them first! Cheers, and apologies if this is not the done thing!

Over-30's needed for WorldNET tournament (under-30s now also required!!)

Right, if you'd all like to peruse this, and decide what pizzas you want on Friday night? Any idea where the nippers team post, so I can let them know too? -

Come on people, pull your f*cking fingers out and get yourselves up to Leeds. The football's always a laugh, you'll have the best take-away pizza in the UK on Friday night, and you have to option of going to Bibi's on the Saturday night, where the food is great and the view even greater. And, frankly, if I can get my fat, 37 year old arse up there, you really need a decent excuse not to (and Scott, I'm not sure if your reason is good enough... ) -
Draw at Norwich and Win at Wycombe = good 4 points

The fourth, fifth and sixth place sides have 16 wins in 32. Are you seriously trying to say that the line between very, very poor and good is four extra wins after two more games than us? You are, IMO, ... oh, I can't be bothered to fill that in. -
Really?!? So the traditional cup upset has never been based on a dog of a pitch, has it? If you have fast players who can dribble and pass, what's that got to do with their ability to play on a rugby pitch, which is basically only fit for long ball football aimed at a big unit in the box. I'm happy that we didn't lose. It's a shame that we didn't take one of the few chances we had, but that's the sort of game we usually lose.

There was nothing in that link that could make the saints site insert data into a player profile page. They've taken the page down, even if you follow the original link, so there really isn't anyway that it could have been a fake.
-
If you clicked on any of the players, he showed up in the list, next to Lloyd James. It's now been taken down, which is definitely suspicious...
-
Erm, are there any Division Three sides that you could take three starters out and they wouldn't look ordinary?
-
Personally, I'd be interested in a player picture. If he could do one with him rising to head in a cross from Terry Paine, with Ted Bates in the background, that would be ideal!
-
Ok, that one I'll let you off on, as that is very deserving of a FFS!
-
Can people not use FFS in every f*cking post, *unless* the opposition really have scored, please? Some of us are relying on this for match info, and that really doesn't help!
-
We were knocked out by the eventual winners, Bury, 1-0 in the quarter finals. So I think that officially makes us better than the nippers. Thankfully, we only had to play the two games on Sunday, as I know that I couldn't have managed a third!

Only because they don't appear to have the money to buy the 50% of the stadium that they have an option on: http://www.coventrycity-mad.co.uk/news/loadfeat.asp?cid=ED11&id=441616 So there's an asset waiting for them there, if they had the money. Personally, I think they were always more intereseted in Coventry, as they were practically bankrupt, so were always going to be cheaper to buy than we were.
