Football League Show 27/02/10 & 13/03/10, It Seems
PaulSaint replied to St Landrew's topic in The Saints
Claridges thoughts on us from his BBC Blog: Steve, what are your thoughts on Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese putting pressure on manager Alan Pardew by saying results in League One have not been good enough? Peter, England There is no doubt Alan Pardew is under pressure. Southampton have spent an awful lot of money for a League One club and I expected them to be a lot closer to the play-offs than they are. Leeds had a 15 point deduction in 2007/08 but were knocking on the door of the top two before losing in the play-offs. Compare that to Southampton who, even if you add the 10 points they were docked, are nine points off a play-off place this campaign. Norwich 0-2 Southampton But should Pardew's job be under threat? No, not this year. It's too early for him and them - he has only been there since the summer. It's not been a terrible season either; they are through to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final and you might be surprised how much that means to their fans. Pardew has asked to be judged after 18 months and that is only fair. But, if that is the case, then they have got to be going for the top two next season whatever happens and the play-offs are the very least they should achieve, otherwise his job is in serious danger. When you spend the money he has, you have to accept the pressure that goes with it because people, rightly, expect a return. But I'm not totally sure whether Alan will get it right. He did well at Reading and West Ham but was effectively relegated twice with Charlton and has a lot to prove again now. It will be interesting to see where he and Southampton are in a year's time. -
I'll go first, next season isnt the breeze we think it will be but we overtake them by winning next years play off final, May 22nd 2011. They are already relegated to League One by then.

"A reduced TV cash package is not exactly a ray of sunshine in these circumstances!" Arent the prem teams (other tham Pompey:D) about to get a new record amount from next season too?
-
Two Skates talking in the work lift this morning. One reckoned they'd win the FA Cup and admin would wipe the slate clean, he seemed to think it was a good time to be a Pompey fan. To top that, one of them reckoned with the pressure off they would win the next 12 games & actually stay up!

After reading and agreeing with most of this I have to say that the long toasting thats about to start is rightly deserved?
-
League one clubs can never realistically win the FA Cup or League Cup, its rewards are basically revenue related. The JPT is really the only Silverware we can fight for at this level. Sure its the lowest of the 3 but its not worthless?
-
Come on, play the game: ...A huge loyal fanbase in a 20k stadium of 17k fans on Southsea common & 233k glory hunting mongs 17k in the Prem 10k in the Championship 7k in League One
-
I really hope Harry Redknapp gets 18 months?
-
Wasnt a similarly skilled kid from "Britains Got Talent" at Markus's first gme (the pre-season friendly against some dutch club)?
-
Anything recent with the word Lumix on it is pretty good
-
In our first year in L1 we: Get to Wembley in the JPT, first go too! Have a useful FA cup run, knocked out eventually by prem opposition that had to cheat to beat us Get a ten point penalty but avoid relegation finishing mid table and averaging two points a game We start cherry picking the good players from other L1 & CCC clubs and add them to our squad ready for the big push next year. Watch the funniest sporting soap opera ever down at Fratton Park which ends in relegation & potentially massive penalties in the CCC for admin/CVA not signed I would have taken that a year ago!!!
-
Can somebody fill in the missing gaps & explain who benefits & how if one of these options are.....well optioned: 1 - Chanrai or "Son of a Gunrunner" or the courts appoint an Administrator ???? 2 - Some South african Consortium pay off all the debts ???? 3 - Portsmouth liquidated (I know this one) - Hard faced Saints Fans enjoy the moment & hell we may even pick up a few thousand extra fans from the Fareham wards? Oh and those smarter skates who want an end to the whole Storrie / Madric / Gunrunner / Agent Harry / Potless Arab era. PS - I'd like to see progress within the next 48 hours?
-
Yep, its Terry Paine!
-
Any of these have all day sunday parking for a quid like they do at Wimbledon?
-
"I'd be impressed if they managed to: 1) go into Admin when they're not able to take that option once the winding up order is in place and" I understood that (even with a WUO in place) a creditor could still place them into admin and even a court official can do this to them?
-
Very useful info mate, cheers! Any chance of a nearby postcode for the old sat nav? Oh and does the congestion charge apply in that area?
-
If they decide admin is the only route to survival, and they can somehow find an administrator brave enough to take it on, their final points total could be a negative number (new record ladies & gents): Current Points +16 Admin penalty -9 CVA not agreed -15 Now that would be very funny however it seems ridiculous that they start next year on zero when theyve done so much wrong and owed so much :(
-
If its true that they owe £70 Million, what does that make the wage bill percentage now against the club's turnover? Are we talking something like 125% (eek)?
-
Why is Pompey 'a fantastic football club'?

Lets face it, as a pundit you'd be clueless about the PFC situation unless you'd read everything posted in the Lounge on here in the last few months! -

Get paid in cash, not pay any tax & overpay for our tickets? -
I spent my first year of employment there handing out dole money. One woman would walk in and the long queues (I kid you not) would part immediately, she would be served straight away. She wasnt a mafia like character she just stunk of sewerage & had flies permanently around her the whole time she was in. I was told by a local that she lived in a hedge?
