Both of them (and JWP and Clasie) are more like traditional CM which would be great if we played old school 4-4-2 but really with Tadic /Boufal playing in behind the striker we really need a couple more decent holding DMs to play 4-3-3 (or one of it's derivative's). We have a lot of midfielders who are all very samey at the moment none of who are really good enough to play DM or prolific in goals to play the 10 AM role.

Hoj is a younger (poorer version ATM) of Davis neither are DMs both are best further forward carrying the ball and linking up play.

Yeah we already have alot of that last season every team in the PL was in the top 50 richest clubs in Europe and as others have pointed out no one has any idea if Lander has any money or if they'd actually plan to blow it Man City style on saints (not that they can do that thanks to FFP anyway).
-
In fairness the number of rich people who could truly take us further must be tiny. Seeing as PL Clubs are some of the richest in world football it seems pretty amazing that we still need more cash to achieve anything. Striving to finish top 10 every season and push on to win some cups and occasionally get into Europe should be pretty achievable with vast new investment surely.

Yeah sadly due to FFP your wet dreams of some billionaire owner pouring money into the club buying world class players to take us to the next level are just that dreams...

My email to the club concerningpre-game music and atmosphere
doddisalegend replied to sifter's topic in The Saints
Yes the idea the PA system is drowning out some sort of pre match atmosphere of 1000s of saints fan singing lustily is pretty far fetched. The only fans singing before kick off at SMS are the away fans who all got there early. Half the home singing sections at SMS are still stumbling in from the Pub 5 minutes after kick off. If anything the loud PA system does an excellent job of drowning out the away fans before kick off. -
err forgot which account you were logged in on did we...

In fairness a bad owner can do far more damage to a club than a few players leaving..

I still rather they ****ed off. I'm happy with the way the club is run I just have a bad feeling that this lot will turn out like the guy at Villa or one of the many other far eastern owners that have generally been gash. We have, imo, a great owner who I'd rather keep.

I could see this changing though if the current status quo continues. The longer Pompey are slumming it in the lower leagues the more and more irrelevant they become as a rival if Bournemouth (and saints) manage to make themselves into a constant features in the PL and we play each other more often the rivalry will grow especially among the younger fans....despite what people say recent saints v Bournemouth matches have an element of needle you don't get with West brom, Swansea or Crystal Palace. -

Davis isn't and never has been a DM .
-
The lack of a decent keeper and a second proper DM are more of an issue than the CBs.
-
Yeah but you'd put your house on Gabbi making something off the half chances we created, second half, rather than Long. With Gabbi off we looked more like early season saints huffing and puffing but lacking quality in the final third.

I don't think anyone is claiming Austin is better than Gabby but Gabby is injured, possibly for up to six weeks, and could be out for much of the rest of the season. Austin is never going to be the complete footballer but he does know where the back of the net is so if he can come back that has to be a positive. I think it speaks volumes about Jrod and Long, this season, that despite being out for months Austin is still our top scorer this season (with 9 goals all comps) and Gabby is our second highest (with 6 after only a handful of games).
-
Yeah but were not a big club so our players will be made an example of and be booked for dissent.

Apparently he is the 30th best keeper in Europe for savings pens with a 30.43% success rate (I guess he saved a lot of pens at Celtic) More amazing is Joe Hart is only 39th best with a success rate of 28.89% http://www.express.co.uk/pictures/sport/8391/Goalkeeper-penalty-save-record-ratio-Europe-Premier-League-pictures/Fraser-Forster-173351

Hasn't been our best season for injuries has it? Not so much the number but more that it seems to have been the players that make a really difference to our side (Austin, VVD and Gabbi in particular) at the times they got injured.
-
Very good might be pushing it. Made a couple of decent stops but I can't understand how a keeper his size fails to control his box he really needs to leave his line more.
-
The way some people are reacting suggests that they thought we were going to turn over 2nd placed spurs, at their place were they haven't lost this season and conceded only 7 goals (eight now)... This game was always likely to be a loss. Compounded by a ropey first half, our new super striker going off injured and the usual unluckiness with the Ref teams get when playing spurs. All things considered we gave a decent account of ourselves second half to a team that destroyed high flying Everton only a couple of weeks ago.
-
and who has a contract for a couple more months. As it stands our season is coasting to end, we won't get relegated and we aren't getting Europe, our season was all about the cup final. In those circumstances we might as well give game time to a promising, up coming young CB on our books than a player we bought in to cover our CB shortage for a couple of months.
-
I think we might have got a result if ,Gabbi hadn't been injured, the way we've played in the second half. We are back to pre Gabbi which is a lot of huff and puff and no cutting edge.
