It was a great day - one of the best of my life. We were living in Birmingham at the time. My dad put an advert in the local paper asking for cup final tickets. We ended up getting 2 paying over the face value of £2.50. The tickets were stamped "AstonVilla Football club" on the back. Our tickets were for a pen behind the goal where Bobby scored. The pen was full of United fans so my dad asked a steward if we could move into the pen above which was full of Saints fans. In those pre Hillsborough days there was no problem in switching pens!! What a great day!!

I have now finished the book. I wouldn't call it terrible but you are right that in many cases the authors have made their minds up and get facts to support them. They do make some good points , however. The observation on relocation assistance that I mentioned above is one of them. Les Reid clearly followed some of the principles about selling players and moving on upwards.

The dangers of self isolation. I did find this funny. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/mar/30/astrophysicist-gets-magnets-stuck-up-nose-while-inventing-coronavirus-device?

I see what you mean. That would make sense.

There is no way that the Qatar World Cup will be held at the end of a season. It would be far too hot That is why it is being played in November / December.

He would only be keeping the seat warm for Rishi.

I was sitting in my garden last night having a beer. At 19.59 I started to sing "if you all hate Pompey clap your hands" and the whole country joined in.

A sobering story I am pleased that you are now feeling better. Look after yourself buddy.

Episode 107 (feat Adam Blackmore) - Total Saints Podcast

A very good listen. Interesting what he has to say about Morgan. -
He is really excelling himself now. There will be more suicides from locking down the American economy than from Coronavirus itself - or so he claims. Presumably he is worried about his businesses (which of course he doesn't run - they are run by his kids) getting affected by closure measures. What a time for a chump like this to be leading the western world.

I have just started to read the book "Soccernomics" which claims to look at football from a stastical angle - similar, I guess, to "Moneyball". One of the first salient points in the book is the importance of clubs providing relocation support to their new players. It deplores the way that clubs will spend fortunes on new players but then fail to provide them with the support they need to be able to live in a new city/ country / continent. How do Saints do in this regard? I can remember a couple of years ago someone (forget his name) who seemed to be doing this sort of job, left the club. Was he ever replaced? What do we do to help newcomers to the city to settle?

Exactly. What an indictment of management. No management of sickness.

Wow. Self isolation is clearly making some people grumpy. Would you not support an extension even if the Government and the rest of the Conservative party agreed to it? You lapped up the sudden change in fiscal policy that was announced in the Budget last week . Wouldn't you likewise approve of an extension if it was proposed by Johnson as being "common sense? "
-
Are we about to witness one of those very rare events? Les changing his mind. I think it is likely to happen when / if the government decides on an extension to the extension. Lets wait and see.
-
So does that mean that we are not " clearly "going down this season as you predicted after just 2 matches?

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

No. I have arrived in a totally different time zone to you ... but your posts are still amusing all over the world. -

... and Les wonders why I find his posts so amusing. -
As he is splashing the cash, you would have thought that the Chancellor could have bunged a bit our way. Enough to buy a couple of decent players. ...and he calls himself a Saints fan.

The Sunday Times - Southampton put up for sale at £250m
Tamesaint replied to The Odd Guy's topic in The Saints
Disappointed in Sunak. If he is a true Southampton supporter he could have announced something in the Budget to aid the purchase of Premiership teams in Hampshire. -
God really must hate Brexit. After all the storms that he sent us once we had left he is now sending a plague to wipe out the old gammon and swivels like Mad Dorris. I hope that Les doesn't go down with it. He is at a vulnerable age and if he went who would supply as much amusement?
-
.... and the mad man in charge doesn't accept that it is a problem!!

I dont disagree with you .... but would Gao really turn down a sensible offer ? I know the figure of £250 million for 80% has been quoted as his asking price but hopefully that is the starting point for negotiations. -
yeah... it is much better to be a sad, weird troll with multiple log ins who sits on the internet each match day pretending to be a fan and pretending to be an expert gambler.

Having recently warched a box set of Life on Mars I think that Lord Duckhunter could happily play the Philip Glenister role .... or perhaps Philip Glenister could play Lord Duckhunter.

No. He is just a very naughty boy.
