The official FIFA world cup thread

I go to the US most years. Came back 2 months ago amazed at how expensive the country has become. Don't believe Trump when he says that US inflation is dead. -
Norwich City v Saints, 12.30pm Saturday 13.12.2025

Donβt knock Alex. We know who he means and I find his usual summary of pressas very useful. -
Be careful. Some people (eg Duckie) got all upset when similar was posted after the Charlton match.
-
I agree. Towards the end Birmingham brought on several giants. Our Centre backs handled well all the crosses, corners and long throws that were sent their way.
-
I suspect that he knows that Aribo was shite and I expect him to have told Aribo that afterwards. He just wasn't going to throw him under the bus after a question from the local journalist. Lets see the line up on Saturday. If Aribo is in the starting line up it will be time to get worried!!

"We weren't playing well". FFS we were being outplayed when we went 1 up. None of the youngsters in our team were playing like we know that they can. Playing away from home at a place like Millwall did not agree with them. I now think an older head would have been beneficial. Yout last paragraph, whilst true, is a complete strawnan argument. My point is that the team would have been better if we had played Fraser instead of Robinson for the first 70 mins and then brought young legs on. Nothing to do with how we shat the bed in the 97th minute.
-
We needed the experience in the first half to calm down the crowd and take control of the game. The atmosphere was hostile and our midfield of Robinson (18 years old), Bragg (20) and Jander (22) was young and inexperienced. We would have benefited from Fraser's nous. Certainly bring on some young legs to run at the tiring defence towards the end but expecting them to take control of the game was in retrospect asking too much.
-
In retrospect Fraser rather than Robinson would have been a better replacement for Scienza. His experience would have helped to withstand the hostile atmosphere. Robinson had a poor game but his fresh legs and direct running would have given us an outlet in the last few minutes if it had been him that came on to replace Fraser instead of vice versa.

St Marys isn't one of the 22 grounds included in the UK bid for the 2035 Women's World Cup. A disgrace Sport Republic out!!! πππ

The depth of our squad will hopefully see us in a strong position as the season progresses. A 46 game season with many midweek games takes its toll on every team. Leicester had to play a rookie on Tuesday as they had nobody else. Charlton had to reorganise their defence as Bree couldn't play against us. Wednesday had a reorganised defence and according to TSP Millwall are down to the "bare bones." We obviously are also going to have injuries and suspensions but we do have a lot of replacements. We depend a lot for example upon Scienza and it would be a blow if he was injured but Robinson is waiting in the wings. Fraser could fit the role if Robinson couldn't play. Our midfield strength is going to be immense when Shea returns to join Downes, Bragg, Romeu and even Williams in contention for a place in the team. There are a few areas where we are weak with the lack of a traditional number 9 being the obvious one. Also I am not sure that the role that Armstrong plays atm could be easily replicated by anyone. Archer perhaps?? On the whole however we do have a squad deeper than so many of our rivals and this could prove decisive at the end of the season.

What is the general opinion now of Spors? I will never forgive him for imposing Still on us. Giving him the first 30% of the season could have cost us promotion this season. On the other hand he has found Tonda who atm seems to be a gem. His transfer dealings appear pretty good. It looks as if we may have ripped off Everton in getting Β£40 million for Dibling. Scienza and Jander look like absolute bargains and Fellows and Azaz are now delivering the goods. Quarshie looks a bit iffy but the biggest problem is Downs. He needs to rebuild his confidence - probably on loan somewhere. IMO sell Flynn the next window ( not convinced that he wants to be here) and get in a decent no. 9. Maybe easier said than done. Overall I would give him a solid 6/7 out of 10. That is a lot higher than it would have been 4 weeks ago. π

We did score 5 at home against Villa by half time - but that was over a decade ago. In how many of those other performances did we score 5 before half time??
-
Read some of the other comments on this forum. I am not the only one comparing the performance to Koeman days.I cannot recall a better performance. Did you even watch the match? We know from the past that you are a negative cunt who loves to moan. When we went on our long unbeaten run a couple of years ago you only ever posted when we had a disappointing result. Are you ever happy???
-
Exactly. And they never make mistakes. Our German bank came to meet us one day at work as part of Know your customer. They wanted to kow why I wanted to call myself xxxxxx when their records showed that I was yyyyy. Their records could not possibly be wrong. πππ
-
But by my reckoning that was only Arma. Stephens was on loan that season and Bragg was buried deep in the academy. Everyone else is post Nathan.
-
So Charlton aren't a good enough yardstick for you despite their results throughout 2025. Who is?
-
FFS. Tonda has now won 3 games in a row. He has turned a team which lost regularly into a team which gave us some of the best football we have seen for a decade. Why not give him the job, until the end of the season, now? He is clearly not a Selles. Who do people prefer as an "experienced" manager? Carrick? GON? Gerrard? Could they have turned us round the same way or done any better? Lets face it the likes of Potter and Rodgers aren't going to touch us with a bargepole. Why not stick with Eckhart until the end of the season???
-
Baz in goal still. ππ

I think it is best to take the advice of Pingpong. Nic is clearly suffering from some mental health issues. It is probably best for him if his nutty views are ignored and the rest of the forum do not engage with him. It may also rescue a decent thread which is spiralling towards nonsense.

After all of the mud slinging the action starts tonight. What do people think will happen? My predictions for what they are worth are : England win the series 3 2. Root silences his critics with a century. Steve Smith is no longer the dominant force with the bat. Cameron Greene is eventually dropped after failing once too often. Gus Atkinson proves to be England's best bowler. Come back in 7 weeks time and have a good laugh at these.
-
I want somebody better than Tonda. I guess that this means an experienced manager who has been successful in the past and can give out weii deserved kicks up the arse to certain players. BUT What happens in the next few weeks if it turns out that Tonda is a really good manager? What happens if in a few years he is regsrded in the same light as say Pochettino? So far he has won 2 matches against weak teams but Blackburn, Derby and Swansea were weak teams and we didn't beat any of them. I can see the merit in giving him a bit longer in charge. If he can get 9 (or maybe 7) points in the next 3 games he will deserve a spell in charge to at least the end of the season.

I thought that this was THB - not JS. Still's downfall started at Hull. Awful performance from the team so Still dropped THB and co for the next match. Saintsweb applauded the move but clearly the Billy big bollocks in the team didnt. Toys out of the pram time.
-
Was that the German or the ex PL player that you have mentioned before? Or is there someone else?
-
At the beginning of this week I was afraid that we were going to see Selles Mark2 appointed. A typical SR attempt at proving that they are so clever. I am now not so sure that Tonda would be a disaster. Today I saw a team that was organised and played good football. For once there seemed to be a game plan and Azaz and Fellows started to show some of their pre Saints form. It was also nice to see an academy player come on at half time. I think that we could do better than Tonda. If nothing else his Baz obsession is a worry. If, however, SR decide to appoint him we may not have Selles mark 2 on our hands.
