  1. Great thread, and some cracking choices. Here's some I'm surprised not to have seen yet, although we'll all have left out loads of crackers I suppose. The Chain - Fleetwood Mac Girl you'll be a woman soon - Urge Overkill Walk this way - Run DMC Losing my religion - REM Starman - Bowie You're so vain - Carly Simon She sells sanctuary - Cult Purple Rain - Prince Lose Yourself - Eminem Numb - Linkin Park Enter Sandman - Metallica
  2. Probably about the poppiest band I like, but decent and good fun live. If you like them, I'd suggest Red Rum Club. Vibrate is so Blossoms. The Lilacs are decent and in the mould of Courteeners.
  3. I love all of those. Courteeners are so underrated. The Opener probably my favourite of theirs. FEAR narrowly missed my cut. Both those Smiths tracks are amazing. I saw Marr down here a couple of weeks ago. His version of both was immense, there is a light in particular.
  4. Great track. I'd take Hey You over it though.
  5. It was that or Pounding. The end of There goes the Fear is phenomenal. Lovely lads too, and hopefully Jimi gets well.
  6. Ankersen was/is an owner, albeit a minority one. Not so easy to bin him off, and probably why he's been sent to Turkey.
  7. Sounds like the copper had sight issues too.
  8. I agree that she's out of her depth, but don't agree she's done the right thing. What she tried to do was to make a saving, then tweak the policy after the event to mould to that number, without any thought to the MP's reaction. Completely naive politics. Welfare needs reform. On that we agree. Figure out the reform, get the party on board, then cost it. She went about it arse about face, got it wrong, has lost the party the tiniest bit of authority they had left, got pulled up by the speaker for waffling, no doubt has been told that she's on thin ice (at best), then failed to hold it together in parliament knocking 1% off the £/@$, and pushing up gilt yields. She's on her way. Thankfully.
  9. Golden Slumbers is magnificent, and brilliantly covered by Elbow. I'm not sure I could pick a best Beatles track, just too many.
  10. Hey soul sister or drops of jupiter...
  11. No. Business owners are exactly that. They hire people with a track record to run their businesses. They put faith in those people to in turn buy/hire the right people. On the face of it his hires should have performed. That they didn't, and bought shit players with his money, isn't on him.
  12. To be fair, it does sound pretty shit reading it back!!
  13. An occasional treat.

Yep, this., including the last bit.
  15. Their authority is thin, I think that's undeniable.

Well written, yes. Missing the point, yes. One person's opinion to align with their own views, yes. Balanced and getting teh point, no. What's happened in Syria is scandalous. Ditto the other conflicts mentioned. What it fails to say is that peoples opinions about the occupation and Zionism predate the era of social media etc. People with long held views have not been "trained" to believe anything, that's just nonsense. Sure, many people's interest will have been sparked by SM etc, but that doesn't alter the underlying issue. For balance, if people believe the publicity during the ongoing conflict, they'll believe that an issue with the conduct of the IDF amounts to anti-Semitism. That erroneous belief and message has been circulated widely on both SM and the main stream. The article fails to mention that kind of programming because the author wants just one view to be heard. My issue with the Israeli actions against Palestinian people goes way back. Simply, they shouldn't be occupying the West Bank or restricting the lives of the Gaza people as they have. They shouldn't steal their houses, kill their kids, control most aspects of their lives, etc. In the present conflict, they had to react to the awful events of 7/10, but, they've gone completely OTT and down the other side. There's also the minor issue of wanting all the Palestinians out of Gaza, seeing them all as fair game, and the aiding and abetting from Trump with his apparent Riviera desires. My views are based on the Israeli government behaviour over a long time , and it's got nothing to do with the stuff in that article. That will be the case for many, but yeah, let's just make up a different narrative.
  17. Yep, ditto. Indeed, I wouldn't knowingly buy any US product unless necessary. I'm quite enjoying the Lidl Cola rather than the real thing.
  18. On another day I could have picked many of those.
  19. Absolutely impossible to come up with a top 10, but: Love will tear us apart - Joy Division There is a light that never goes out - Smiths Pounding - Doves Smells like teen spirit - Nirvana Beatles and the Stones - House of love Echo Beach - Martha and the muffins Uncertain smile - The The Rattlesnakes - Lloyd Cole and the commotions Lovesong - The Cure Bonny - Prefab Sprout
  20. I've been to several as a chaperone and they've all been face to face, but I suspect that's not always the case. They don't go easy on people in my experience, and don't roll over when challenged. The number of successful claims does surprise me.
  21. Yep, it needs looking at, but properly. What irritates me is people getting PiP based on a points system, but to meet one aspect of independence. If that, for example, is to get to/from work but they cease to work (or need to pay to get there) then the PiP should go irrespective of whether they've got the points. The points test is quite a tough threshold though, so I'm staggered so many people get it.
  22. Where we agree is re need, not timing. The climb down just highlights their lack of authority, but doing nothing is better than a half cocked 2 tier system which was a daft compromise.
  23. Always a great festival though, whoever is playing. You can have a great time without going near the main stage or the big top. Some of my best days there have been spent in and out of The River Stage, Cirque de Quirk, Electro Love, Hipshaker, the music bars, etc. Brilliant festival.

I think you're a tad out of touch with popular thinking on this. 7/10/23 was on 7/10/23. A wee bit has happend since then.
  25. Bless him. If the US subsidies them, there's a slim chance they may sell a few I suppose.
