I think the problem (if there is one) with the squad, is not so much what we haven't got, but what we have got. The squad is still too big, and full of players that will never, ever make the first team. Over the rest of this season and during the off season, I'd like to see us dispose of 10 of the deadwood and replace with 3 or 4 real first team contenders.

I never went the PGA route - I didn't want to spend 4 years doing an apprenticeship in a shop - I just wanted to play tournament golf. Anyway, that was fun!! Got 10 holes done and we were called in, the course was flooded, and half the green unplayable. Met MLT before I went out to play - what a bloody nice bloke he is. How many people as well known as him as as genuinely down to earth as him?! Not many. He came in jokingly saying he was 6 under when we were called in, but obviously he wasn't!! He told me before we went out he'd only broken 80 once around there, so that kinda eased my worries of him beating me! I was playing quite well when we got called in, bit of a shame really. Anyway, a bloody nice chap, haven't met him since I was a nipper, so was good to have a chat about Saints and golf. I was more excited seeing him show up than I would have been if Nick Faldo had turned up to be fair!

Played a practice round yesterday and the greens were poor......I think it's cuz it's late on in the year now I suppose. Had a little money game with my mate and was 7 under through 10 though! The greens actually still rolled really well, but didn't look good at all. Apparently MLT is doing the prizegiving at the end so it'd be great to win. Some good players playing this one, including Ronan Rafferty...former European Number 1. Anyway better get my backside down there.

The problem I had, Alpine, was there are a million positive things to dwell on right now, everything is going well, yet once again you chose to dwell on something negative. And in this case, it was something that hasn't happened yet! You would get a lot loss grief from me if you sounded happy once in a while. That is all.

that's awesome mate! I hope you made a 2?! I have to be honest, the buzz isn't really there in the same way as when I was a kid. If I'm in contention, there's definitely a buzz, but a good shot or a good score doesn't excite me so much nowadays. At the end of the day, it's a job for me now. Try and make as much cash as I can to survive. It's quite intense because there are so many players trying to do exactly the same thing, so even though we all get along together, it's a cut throat thing and we'll do anything (within the rules) to make sure we make more money than the next person. I still love the game though....if I didn't, I'd be doing a proper job!

Aimed at 19C mate, sorry. Regarding the odds...hmm, I don't know. Not really a betting man! Golf is a weird game, all sorts of strange things happen, I could shoot 67 and he could play the best round of his life and shoot 66. But the chances are slim. I'm playing pretty well at the minute....he'd have to play well and I'd have to have an off day.

Ok I'm a little worried, but confident enough that it shouldn't be even close to being an issue. Is that fair enough?! :-)

What nonsense, it's related to football because it involes MLT who happened to play FOOTBALL for SAINTS. Can I get this straight, from what I've read, you don't like MLT, you don't like Lawrie Mac, and you defend Rupert Lowe.....you must be a skate on the windup, surely!

Nah I'm not worried. Only thing he's got over me is he doesn't have the pressure of playing for the prizemoney and he's on his home course. But still, not concerned. It's not on sky, no. It's just a 1 day event, £3k to the winner. Maybe South Today might do a little something on it? I don't know to be honest.

He's my hero, as he is for most Saints fans. So I won't be dragging up anything like that if I meet him briefly. Please give up on that, he's probably given you a lot of joy over the years when you've watched him play, don't forget that. Don't tarnish this thread with all that stuff, much appreciated.
