He will always score goals, if you provide the service. In the likes of James/Harding/Holmes we have players with proven delivery - if we use the width properly, he'll get 20-30 in league 1 IMO.
-
Great game by the sounds of it. Let's take a moment out to laugh at Newcastle... LEYTON ORIENT 6 NEWCASTLE UNITED 1
-
He's the sort of player we should be looking at tbh. Loads of experience, a lot of that in top level European competition with bolton too. Obviously he's not as good as he was then, but he'd cope with league 1 - I'd offer him a 1 year contract, see what he can do.
-
The man speaks so much sense. Glad he isn't rushing into stuff for the sake of it. Murty was brought in by Wotte anyway, so it makes sense that pards wants to take a longer look.
-
Can't say i've seen much of him tbh. Who's he with at the mo?
-
I'd agree with Lambert if we weren't keeping stern. But as we have Stern (by the looks of it) then our priority must be a pacey striker.
-
Whaley, Kisnorbo and Hughes were free. Wiggins was a 'nominal fee'. Don't blame AP for missing out on these targets, blame those morons at Pinnacle who killed our pre-season preparations.
-
The point he made was a valid one though. These young kids confidence has been ruined because they were all thrown into a loosing side. A couple of players have come out of this better, i.e James, but the majority of them look a fragile mess (look at lancashire and Thompson a year ago - a huge difference) Yes they're good young players, but they weren't ready for week in week out football last year, a few appearances here and there would have prepared them much better. In a way last year has possibly slowed their progress.

I haven't heard anything, but it bet it's at 2pm

Burley got slated for NOT having this attitude. In our playoff season, even though we spent £8m, all he said was ''we'll see if we can make the top 6'' - even though we did, i admit we should have been pushing more for the top 2. If your manager is ambitious, the players attitudes often follow..
-
Not sure if he's been mentioned, but what about nathan delfouneso? good young player at villa, similar mold as agbonlahor with lots of pace. Obviously im not talking a transfer fee, but a season long loan would be good IMO.
-
Exactly. Also Loan's aren't exactly free either, the ''best'' loans command some sort of loan fee. What about Nathan Delfounsou (Sp?) from villa. He was linked to leeds a while back as part of a swap deal for Delph, but that died in the water.

Read this line... '' “There are players contracted to other clubs that I do feel would do well for Southampton. “Some of those I’ve put in tentative approaches to say ‘If there is a possible situation where a player might move on from your club I would be interested.’ “But I’m focusing very much on the market where there’s no transfer fee at the moment. '' Makes sense to snap up the best avaliable free's, rather than splashing the cash on a player who is possibly equal? he's doing it the right way round IMO.
-
Wally Downes would be a great appointment. He was one of the brains behind readings ''walk of the league'', he was very highly rated and was loved by the reading players - he is a defensive coach i believe.
-
Club for me. I still follow England when they play, but it doesn't ruin my weekend if England loose.
-
They had eugene bopp playing lastnight He scored 2 goals and is apparently Hart's 'Top target' He was released by crewe for petes sake! Times are very very hard over there by the sounds of it.
-
Patterson would be great as an option to bring on to replace stern. I wouldn't start him with stern....I'm not sure that would work, but I'd like to see him alongside a pacey player who'll open up more space.
-
Sensible is the key word. If we want a player i cannot see us paying over the odds for them. We'll offer what they're worth and that's it. Sounds as if AP is going about this steadily and carefully.
-
Stern would be great in this league tbh, we saw the benifit of a fit and confident stern a season ago - 20 goals in all comps. Getting rid of Saga + Rasiak was always going to happen. You cannot keep all 3....and players of that 'level' will not want to be playing 2nd' fiddle in league 1. Basically this opens the door for us to buy a fresh pacey/tricky striker to partner stern. A striker who actually plays on the shoulder of defenders..running onto sterns flicks. Pace in any league is essential IMO. The forward line up will be....Stern/Pacey Striker/Patterson/Lallana. I know Lita is possibly out of our league but someone like him would be absolutely perfect. I saw Tyson mentioned on another thread....good shout imo.
-
It's a massive coup IMO. A player who can easily step up to the championship when we get promoted, the teams that have gone up to the championship and adjusted quickly.. have been able to play the core of the team and did well in league 1.(Swansea/Bristol city) this was the comment from Coppell towards the end of last season... “He is still contracted to Ipswich, but I spoke with Dan before the end of the season. He did ever so well when he played and we’ll see how things go.” obviously as Coppell left, that put end to that move....but he did play v well at the top end of the championship.

Their left back that day was Matthew kilgallon i think (now with Sheff United) and he hasn't turned out too badly! I watched Harding on one of readings TV games this year, he was brilliant and from the moment i heard he was avaliable on a free...i thought he'd be a great capture for us - but i expected him to go to a champ side.
-
left wing/backup to left back? he was pretty good as a winger on saturday. i think (hope) this signals the end of molyneux
-
I saw him play for reading last year, he was brillaint that day...
-
that is a brilliant signing...
-
I think we're being a bit harsh on him. He's a good player, his problem is the hangover from the previous management. All these young kids are used to loosing, it's easy for experienced players to recover from this mentality after a while because usually they've experienced the winning side of the game... ...but these young players have been thrust into a losing setup with a losing mentality and in their careers that's all they've had. - it's no wonder they look a little short atm. once pardrew sorts them all out, they'll show us what they're all about. (that wasn't meant to rhyme...)
