Elyounoussi had possibly his best ever game for us today (a backheel found the intended target at one point!) and he was still hopelessly out of his depth. Another player we are going to have to ship out on loan for the rest of his contract just to get a percentage of his wages off the books.
I don't think he has "all the attributes to be a top player" at all. I'd put composure and shooting ability right at the top of the list of required attributes and he lacks both. Massively.
Bournemouth match was yet another reminder of this - his goal was via a deflection ,Boruc would've saved it otherwise - and the less said about the post incident the better. He has shown consistency in these failings throughout his career.
Google translated it:
"Avoiding relegation this season is virtually a miracle in my opinion. The players are ****. My old pal Ralph has done a great job. Southampton need to urgently invest in some new players and I would suggest they buy some players from RB Salzburg on the advice of Ralph. Sorry for being so frank Southampton, but you gotta be told"
No need to apologise Vienna07 pal the job Ralph has done and the (avoidance of) relegation he has achieved is pretty ****ing miraculous tbh particularly given he had zero financial backing.
That is a terrible stat and proof we lack nous, staying power, and plain old ******. Still, we're not going down and I'd back Ralph to sort the problems out ASSUMING he is given reasonable £ backing.
It's getting to the stage where us winning a corner is a reason to be fearful of conceding. Ridiculous.
As for the match generally we have looked properly ****. Weak in the tackle, slow, giving the ball away easily. One of dem days I suppose.
Yeah wayward shot or pass but there’s clearly ability there which a good manager should back himself to be able to develop, he’s got genuine skill that most players simply don’t. All comes down to Ralph really, if he doesn’t think he’s up to it or doesn’t fit that’s good enough for me.
