He cheats in possession whenever he picks the ball up deep. Just like a wall, a bit like JWP and unlike Lavia, he doesn’t play on the half turn. One of those midfielders that Souness rages about. I get exasperated when he gets the ball and just quickly gives it back when there’s space for him to turn. Lost count the number of times he’s done it.

Not like he can do anything between now and the end of the season. He might not fancy being Ashworth’s teaboy anyway.

We looked a better side with Bree at left-back as it gave KWP licence to bomb on and we had a virtual back three. Can’t do it with Manning as he can’t defend for shit.

We need proper wide players who like to hog the line when teams squeeze up against us. If they make the pitch shorter, we have to make it wider.

Without Downes the midfield was impotent last night. Movement was poor, passing was abysmal and choice of pass was just too safe. Real propaganda football.

If Downes is still out we should go 3-4-3. Fuck Manning off as he has been shite in the last 2 games and play 2 wing backs. If Downes is fit, put him straight in for Charles and Stu for Rothwell. Up front play Fraser/Edozie, Mara and Brooks. Recipe for success. Let’s make sure those dour, miserable black-country fuckers go home pointless.

That’s a very good point. Smallbone is very good but cannot play that role. Holes all over the place when he’s there.
