They are going to lose the next two, last day decider, last minute winner for Shrewsbury. 10 point deduction next season. If carlsberg did poetic justice

If you can find a Swiss billionaire to take on the railways then fill your boots. You will, however, upset Pap because another British company will have fallen into foreign hands.

Agree with the gist if not the sensationalist government stormtrooper bit

Not surprising seeing as he held a candle for Arthur scargill. One a the biggest hypocrites ever. Lives in housing association accommodation, whilst pulling down £140 k per year.

We were a good example of free enterprise. We went bust, someone saw an opportunity and bought the assets. Actually it should appeal to your sense of fairness as ML was far more generous to the creditors than he needed to be.

Found this which suggests that it is number of people as opposed to jobs. What can't find is how many of those are part time http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/lms/labour-market-statistics/march-2013/index.html Trouble is even if we did have that figure, how would we divide that between those people who elect to work part time and those who want to work full time but can't.

Was more after a split between full employee and part time out of the 30 m of so that are currently employed. Ie is the 30 m employees or jobs. I appreciate that people will have more than one job, even more so now. After all firemen have been doing it for years;)

Would be genuinely interested to see the figures on that.

I wonder if anyone could have prevented the levels of unemployment in 1982, given what was happening economically in Britain at that time. Economic policy has a tendency to take a number of years to manifest itself, so I would suggest that both parties were to blame.
-
Iirc the number of people in employment are at record levels, which sort of suggest it has.

What you describe is wonderful, and I would gladly welcome, however, time and again the state has proved to be utterly incompetent. I have stated many times that I do not mind paying taxes, I would even accept the 50% band, if the money collected was used wisely. As soon asthe government gets involved in running anything, it goes tits up. The treasury cannot even run a tender for a railway let alone run the actual thing. There are too many low calibre people making too many critical decisions in government. Forget the politicos, I am talking about the civil service, who irrespective of whose in or out, their cosy little existence continues

On the train issue - £10 ew Southampton to Waterloo if you buy an annual season ticket doesn't seem so bad especially compare to the £70 for return ticket if bought on the day. No one complains about expensive airline tickets if you expect to fly same day, why should rail travel be difference. How may rail trip are not pre planned anyway?

The rolling stock used in the eighties (when I used he trains regularly) was terrible. The current stock in comparison is light years better

Minutes silence - no, (it is not the right venue and won't be respected anyway) State funeral - no, diSagree will politicians getting them. Revelling in someone's death - no, it's sick
