  1. Holgate ?? Although perhaps that was just a fail based on talent alone, rather than effort.
  2. He was a frustrating player whilst with us, but there seemed an inevitability that our first £1m player would turn out that way. Not sure why it didn’t work out, but the player we bought had a fairly free role at Swindon, he was their ‘main man’ and attacks were channelled through him (some would now describe him as a ‘No 10’ role). When he joined us he was curbed a bit, and as I recall played wide right. Didn’t work. No great surprise that in a lower division team and perhaps more freedom to play his way,he recovered some of his previous form.

    Will Still

Strange that Lallana remains, inexperienced, but a good playing record. Someone at the club clearly rates him.
  4. I’d like to keep AA, although it’s an unknown whether he fits in a Will Still type of system, whatever that may be. I certainly wouldn’t want to sell a proven 20+ goals a season Championship striker to an immediate promotion rival such as Brum or Ipswich. We can guess how that might end, although somehow it seems a very ‘Saints’ type of move.
  5. Agree. Even the YouTube clips aren’t that impressive. He certainly doesn’t look the dynamic and athletic striker Spors referenced, more a bit of a forceful lump in the Troy Deeney mould, without great pace. Also playing in a pretty piss poor league.
  6. Save yourself the trouble, Carozzi has probably nailed it as far as the 19776/7 reworking is concerned. Best suggestion yet (with stripes on the back).
  7. Just read on the Middlesbrough site regarding the appointment of Edwards : A Premier League promotion winner, he joins the club on a three-year contract and is joined in the dugout by Adi Viveash and Harry Watling. So at this stage, not going to Middlesbrough but who knows if there are still discussions ongoing.
  8. I think McMenemy was appointed with the unusual title of Team Manager Designate, rather than an assistant. Quite when the Board planned to elevate him wasn't stated when he joined.. My recollection though was that Forest sacked their manager, and there was a press report of them wanting to speak to Lawrie. Whether that was pure coincidence we'll never know but he was given full control shortly after. (Yes, I remember the 3 day week - Saints played a midweek cup replay at Bolton, kicking off at something like 2.30pm to avoid the need for floodlights. Had forgotten 'Spangles' though.).
  9. Intrigued to know why he would want to leave recently promoted Koln for us, or doesn’t have the opportunity to upgrade in the Bundesliga. Apart from $$$ of course.
  10. Club missed a trick in the catering after that performance by Alan Bennett. Arnold Bennet omelette- with smoke haddock and cheese. Alan Bennet special omelette- more like something largely scrambled and all over the fucking place/plate
  11. I didn’t think KWP looked anything special during his loan spell, certainly nothing like the player he has become for us.
  12. For me there are many who I haven’t wanted to see near the first team. Two mentioned on here are David Lee, and Bazunu. But not rating them hasn’t lead to an irrational hatred that the OP mentioned ( it might do for others of course). There are also players whose performances or conduct have lead to a real dislike, Hoedt prime example, and also VVD. But the stand out irrational hatred is largely players I never expected or wanted to see playing for us, and when they did the feeling didn’t improve. Notably, David Speedie, Mark Hughes, Carlton Palmer and possibly Dennis Wise. Lemina is on the fringes of that group.
  13. There are plenty who fit that bill over the years.
  14. Of the names linked you suspect this might be the way it goes. The other key avoid for me is an average striker from the Belgian league.
  15. Certainly ranks highly on the De Ridder scale. And don’t see him coming to us.
  16. Berkovic was a bit of a strange one. Was it widely known when he joined that it was a loan ?
  17. But did they sail from Southampton or Plymouth ?
  18. The original was predominantly white. No excuse for the plain white back though.
  19. Gets my vote. Alderweirald a close second. If only we could have kept either of them ( Ekelund barring injury)
  20. Perhaps he’s a slow reader
  21. Should add: 1.”drive him there myself”…. 2.People observing Flight Radar website and linking an incoming private flight into Southampton with a player whose club is in close proximity to outbound airport. 3.As towards end of window references to “slam shut” and images of Sky reporter with dildo in his ear
  22. Fair point, but other clubs have managed to build on, or expand what you might term their ‘main stand’ before. Everton for example had a third tier put on their main stand all housing the facilities you mention, in the early 1970’s. I’d have thought construction techniques and knowledge would have moved on since then to make it possible. Fully accept it might cause some disruption and timing of works might be critical.
  23. All down to personal taste, and I’m more of a traditionalist, and don’t like seeing what I regard as psychedelic patterns ( Reading this season, or out hideous 2022/3 away kit for example). Palace’s fell into that category. But credit where it’s due, even with that design, Palace still retained stripes on the back. Why we can’t is beyond me.
  24. Fucking hell Willo, hope your day job isn’t as an interior designer.
