  1. Last weeks rumour on here previously. The Mirror are just catching up.
  2. I look forward to his interview on Solent, or taking questions from supporters at a forum. I'm sure he'll handle it well but it may prove a little more searching and insightful than his Canadian snippets. Unless of course he is preparing the market there for sponsors !
  3. Anyone else remember how James Beattie looked out of sorts in his early months with Saints ? Gallagher needs time to develop.
  4. It's all well and good clowning around with facemasks and attending end of season staff matches but I think they should be concentrating on pressing issues like having a radio station and gaining some accolades for the catering. And having a picture of a train in the boardroom.
  5. Navy blue was the traditional name for it.

Would prefer quarters to all red..

As opposed to nearly 83% who say anything but mainly red...

    Kit Poll

Can we first have a 'what sort of poll' poll ? A single vote or some form of proportional voting, a ranked system of 1-3 ? Then perhaps 42 can start a thread about why Season Ticket Holders should be either the only ones to vote, or why there should be some form of weighting given to their votes...
  9. I remember in the 70's it was a mudbath from one goalmouth to the other, The Dell was pretty bad but Derby's Baseball Ground and Stamford Bridge were even worse.
  10. Should be ahead of Gazzaniga in the pecking order.
  11. I remember David Peach hitting a volley on the turn from the edge of the penalty area into our goal, on a Friday evening game v Millwall at The Dell c 1974 or 5. Alex Lindsey c 1970 headed into the Liverpool goal for us. (I think that was the game John McGrath upset Shankly for him and the media to label us Alehouse footballers).
  12. Not sure about Stam , but I read that Overmaars is Sporting Director, in which case he would presumably not be part of the 'backroom' team. I'd expect Bercamp to stay and possibly take over at Ajax who seem to promote ex players into the top job as far as aware.
  13. As much as I'm pleased to see us play our part in derailing their quest for Champions League football, this is nowhere near enough to offset the 1984 semi-final.

Recalling Sheringham's skate history, I have made a minor amendment to your post.
  15. Don't disagree with any of that. I'm not too bothered about his brief foray into management, backroom staff are often thrust into the team managers role, where they are ill suited. (Wigley, & Gray for two).
  16. That one rests between MP and NC. MP, having worked with him previously felt he could 'manage' him, and get him motivated, sadly wrong on both counts. After Osvaldo first rejected us in May, it should have been abandoned. Seemed to me after that rejection - just from snippets posted by a couple of Italian journalists - that rather like the Ramirez saga, Cortese would not allow his ego to be beaten in front of watching Italian media, and we had to sign the f^cker at whatever cost no matter how long it took. I wonder if NC would have been so keen to pursue a player after the first rejection if he was playing in Spain or Germany.
  17. Might have been better if MP had adopted a 'arryesque "nah, f^ck off, I'm not bleedin' answerin' that .. " (as per the 'wheeler-dealer' interview) , leaving the translator to give this in English after MP had stormed off the set.
  18. That is an interesting observation. Like many on here, I had some doubts about Les Reed's input under the NC regime, and questioned his involvement in 'the dream' and managerial changes etc although off the pitch the Staplewood development looks good and no one can doubt the success of the Academy. If LR is heavily involved in heading that up then that probably justified his position. When NC departed however I was relieved to see LR continue as it gave some continuity, and at least we had a "football man" (and one from the UK) to assist KL and her assembled board on football issues. Reeds statement gave further credibility to his standing and role. If as you and Derry say, he is not popular or respected by the first team then that puts a new and different complexion on things. Perhaps this is the sporting director role that RK has spoken of ?
  19. Brilliant ....deserve credit for imaginative approach to it. Lets not forget Plymouth is a major hike for them as well.
  20. But Charlton are probably no massive fans of Les Reed. Sorry GS, but not sure what point, if any you are making here.
  21. Similar to the Hearts shirt a couple of seasons ago.
  22. Thirteen years too late.
  23. one of their posters even has the audacity to plagiarise our theme :
