  1. A player I detested in the 80's was Ian Rush.
  2. Yes.Remember him.
  3. Picallili. An often forgotten and shamefully overlooked accompaniment to a dish, especially salad(s) or Ploughmans lunch etc.
  4. Mike Sumerbee always received a lot stick at The Dell during my early years, never knew the full history of that.
  5. John Bailey of Blackburn and Everton. Alan Biley of Skates and ridiculous Rod Stewart hair.
  6. That 'Arry bloke.
  7. John McGrath,Jim Steele,Brian O'Neil or Mark Dennis: .."nah,sorry can't be bothered really, think I'll stay in and have a cup of tea instead.."
  8. But only Lawrie made this statement about it.We will never know how NP would have fared at SFC this season;probably better than Rupert's Dutch indulgence I'm sure, but possibly average none the less. As for Peter Reid,no f^cking way.I've detested that grey haired c^nt since his playing days (tacky blue le coq sportif Hafnia shirts,Highbury 1984).
  9. Pretty 'artful' working that reference in Pancake.
  10. Wigley.
  11. Don't think I'd be able to slip in under the radar and security of Fortress Withington.I shall however keep a close watch on Waitrose in Cheltenham as there has been a previous sighting there.
  12. Ball for A team. Case for B team.
  13. They were indeed. For me Bally was a far better player, and captain. As you have also seen both,I respect your view to differ. But I think we would agree that either would be a Godsend for us now.
  14. Is he/she likely to sneeze out of either one ?
  15. Do you not think Walkers should have included at least one of these flavours in their new crisp range ?
  16. For much the same reason Channon gave up the captaincy as he could not get closely involved without it affecting his game. It then passed to Peter Rodrigues, who is now seen as an iconic figure.
  17. From what you have seen since the eighties I respect your view Bexy.Case was the best captain since Ball.Svennson might have been a good option in modern times, injury aside.Suggestions of CMFG or more laughably Benali though are ludicrous. Captain these days ?It might as well be Captain Birdseye.
  18. Don't doubt what you post, but what b0ll0cks! We are not Milwall or Leeds. No one is likely to go armed with a view to 'razoring' Lowe or Wilde for Christ sake. Saints fans are fairly meek in their approach to all this.It is almost "well,we are not paricularly happy so we might have a protest, meet in the town, walk to the ground together and shout a few slogans...with a Police presence of course,if thats alright with you Mr Lowe..".
  19. Captain of the Titanic - via a seance - "Thanks Rupert,at last I'm no longer the most hated man in the history of Southampton".
  20. Hypothetical I know, but if Alan had been around then I feel he would have been the man to come back again and replace Burley last season.
  21. Only if you did not see Bally.
  22. Alan Ball. For all the plaudits Lawrie receives for how well we did -after 1976 - and he is our best ever manager according to many posters,'Bally' was the inspiration on the field and in the dressing room. Only Jimmy Case has had somewhere near the respect from his team that Ball had.Paine,Channon and MLT were great players who happened to be team captain;Ball lead the team and drove them on.
  23. Any reject strikers from Dorchester or Maidenhead Utd available ?
  24. Sorry, but I'm lost as to what Clifford's link to this is.Do we play a game against his Guiseley* Samba XI from time to time ? *or wherever it is in Yorkshire Perhaps we should have a behind the scenes friendly against Barnstonthwaite as a real test.
