Just read the opening post on that thread and fair play to the bloke who described the selling off of their best players as a "deforestation process". Made I laugh...

Struck me as something the editors of Viz in Newcastle might have dreamt up. A former international footballer, with drink and drug problems, and occasional wifebeating tendencies ,who falls on hard times, but is secretly a peace envoy diffusing world trouble spots..."eeh man, jus' stoppin off fa' me tabs, then I'm gannin off tee sort the Arabs and Israelis oot..... they'll be callin it The Gazza strip by time I'm back in Newcassell..."
-
Gazza: "he's a gentleman..", "a lovely bloke..."," a good lad...", Not since someone said of Fred West that he was "an alright bloke..." have I read or heard such an inapproriate character reference ! ("I've survived a car crash at 90mph,I'm sure I can survive a bullet !!...) Joking aside,it is sad what Gazza has become listening to that interview.Probably a well intentioned but completely ill thought out move on his part in going to Rothbury.

No, but don't worry I expect they will release an SFC Thomas the Tank Engine set in the run up to Christmas.

Now you're talking ! (Except of course our traditional away colour was 'amber' not old gold but thats splitting hairs).
-
Agree would like to see Papa back. Or offer Reading the £500,000 they might accept for Antonio.

Out of interest, what will we wear at Notts County ?

Agree with both comments. Initial reaction is that it is not as good as our two previous black away kits.Nothing too different from (many) other clubs black away kits , Stoke for example. Not been worth the wait !

You don't write the rules for ridiculous gameshows as well do you ? Perhaps the 'booking' for this should carry an extra points tally, a kind of 'Brucie Bonus'. Then there is the possibility of the referee, once challenged, pulling another card from his pocket , to "play his joker"* on the decision and if correct the freekick is advanced ten yards or whatever. *assume many will be old enough to remember that. Oh, and Stuart Hall should do the commentaries.
-
I expect he will wait until he has secured a 3 year contract before he has his next injury.
-
You're right - neither will get much opportuniy of taking one for us with RL around.

An interesting polarisation of views there chaps. At this stage I'm tending to side with Andy_Porter in that he seems to have built a reputation on one good season in L2 and the opening weeks of last season, after which he seemed to disappear.Wait to be told thats wrong though... Still if AP thinks he's up to it then I'll go with it and hope he lives up to the hype.At £750,000 its well worth a gamble and if Norwich want him he can't be too bad.Choice ohf him or Antonio though I reckon Antonio has the greater potential.

I certainly recall having read this before, possibly in an interview with Peach shortly after he joined us or about the time of the 1976 Cup Final. I suspect David Coleman has been kicking himself since 1976 for not bringing that up.I am told his commentary just made references to Peach owning a Fishmongers in Lymington.(Not heard the commentary fully as I was at the match).

For £8m ? That will be a hard one for AP and NC to ponder.

There will be a lot of talk this weekend about an Englishman refereeing the WC final. In case anyone is previously unaware of it, the first Englishman to ref at this level was our former chairman George Reader. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Reader In my view this is another piece of great Saints history to remember to go with the Charlie Miller story.
-
Don't worry the sash will go in the opposite direction
-
If we are talking of World Cup referees this weekend the BBC will probably recall Jack Taylor in 1974 and remind us he was a butcher from Wolverhampton. Please don't forget the first Englishman to ref a World Cup final, George Reader a former Saints chairman: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Reader

Howard Webb...he's come a long way since Saints v Villa c2002 or 3.The only man at St Marys to see an infringement in our 6 yard box and give a penalty. No one appealed for it and the Villa players were trotting back upfield thinking it was our frre kick for a push by one of their players ..before the horror of it set in !
