I think it predates the 70's,as I recall them being pretty hated in the 1960's although that was the same group of players that you refer to. I'm pretty sure I read in 'Dell Diamond' that Ted Bates had a thorough dislike for them.He also had a dislike for Liverpool and Shankly if I remember correctly. The hatred was of course intensified by that defeat at Elland Road, and the way Coleman et al used to salivate over Leeds and Revie at every opportunity as they did with Liverpool and more recently the mancs. Had a few mates who supported Leeds whilst I was at Uni so my view of the club for a while thawed. No longer under any misgivings about Leeds although I can share their view of ManU. The fact it is the sort of fixture that I would avoid taking my kids to just about justifies why anyone should dislike Leeds. Good point about them taking points of others though. Surely the tackiest and most ridiculous football fashion ever ? Paul Reaney (sp), was he not the original monkey head ?

I'm looking to replace my current printer (Epson R300) which is after a few years good service becoming unreliable. I've looked at a Canon 620 which has had some good reviews, and Kodak seem to be on a keen marketing campaign about ink costs. I'd appreciate any experiences of manufacturers/printers (especially if currently available) from any of you. The printer is used for both photos and text.Ideal cost is up to £150.00 Thanks.

That sounds about right.Infact I think it may have been on New Years Day. Two of us arrived to find Brisbane Road in a deserted street except for a line of coppers heading off duty to a minibus. They advised us that the nearest game was Tottenham v West Ham so we made our way there to see that friendly encounter, getting in just before half time.

I remember Davies,Paine and Sydenham playing although they had past their peak by that stage (1969/70). Two forwards I do wish I'd seen as older relatives rave about them are Derek Reeves and George O'Brien. Charlie Wayman perhaps also deserves a mention.

I would not be sure about PNE or Reading to be honest. In NT's case it might give an early indication of Preston's intentions.
-
And I suppose Aaron (Eastleigh bloke whose name escapes me) might be cup tied even if he were considered able for selection. (Perry,or recall for Lancashire perhaps ?)

I'm glad you did. I also remember us going on a run without a win in (I think)1988/9 whilst Nicholl was manager.Something like 23or24 games. We were at home to Newcastle and had we not won it would have broken that pitiful record from the 1920's(?).Mick Channon was interviewed before the match and at the time his dislike for Nicholl was widely reported.Channon's comment was to the effect that, well we won't break any records with Nicholl here, not even that one so we're bound to win. Ruddock scored a memorable last minute penalty for a 1-0 win.It really sparked some massive celebrations at The Dell.

OK its six, but I'm sure Branfoot was manager.
-
Thinking of this earlier, anyone know if the following will be available or allowed to play in the FA Cup at Rovers ? Trotman (could be a major influence of course) Antonio Mellis
-
Thought it was eight. Achieved at the most unlikely of times, whilst Branfoot was manager no less.

I would like to think you are both right in the above.

As grateful as we should be to Leon for his part in keeping the club afloat, and to Lawrie for all the glory he brought us,I can't help but think their abscence smacks of it being "toys out the pram" time.Something which does not reflect well on either of them in my book. I can't believe either would be so fickle as to resent coughing up for a ticket.Whats the cost of tickets compared to the £500,000 Leon (allegedly) forked out for Pinnacle to almost ruin the club? (And statue don't forget). In Lawrie's case his continued presence - at his own cost - would maintain if not enhance his legendary status.
-
Please don't dwell on this as the next line is "now I know they are here to stay".
-
Definitely one for the anoraks to dwell on. Bring back 'Statto'.

Do you not have to be a member ?

Its not long ago, probably the start of last season, that many were concerned about him being lured away as the loss of another promising academy player.By the end of September many were writing OL's career off.Whilst it panics me when I hear his name in the team - Swindon this year- I'd agree that he needs a chance to develop and throwing him in as JP/RL etc did last season too early has been his undoing.Let him out on loan and monitor his development. As for Patterson, there was nothing to forgive as his dangerous challenge was on a ManU player, just hope he tries harder next time!

end up really hating us won't they ?
-
I was there for that. Christ it was a bitterly cold day on the terrace, but well worth it.
-
They were rumoured to be watching him at a reserve game so thats a poosibility.
-
Who is Portvliet now managing ? Or perhaps WGS wants him at 'boro.(only joking). Yep.Barstonworth seem a good bet.
-
Or perhaps someone just sold them a franchise

Having read through the Orient forum there were many sensible and balanced posts,so well done to those posters. The following two were not among the balanced posters however : This from an absolute spacker : And: That was in 1978 !

Perhaps they will buy themselves out of their own contracts.

I'd be more concerned if it were a London club seeking a manager.
