The Starmer Years - Can The New Broom Sweep Clean?
Lord Duckhunter replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
So she was told to get specific tax advice, but didn’t. Bit different from what her and her supporters were saying earlier in the week. Instead of coming clean, she tried to blame others. -

What double standards? A Tory minister would have gone for exactly the same offence. Prescott was banging his secretary, plenty of Tories got as much clog for similar. The only double standards I see here are people claiming this is different, that she was somehow hounded out for being “working class”. Don’t forget, this is the second dodgy property transaction she’d been involved in, the first one would have sunk a lot of other politicians. 1 year, and we’ve had Lord Ali, The anti corruption minister going for corruption allegations, a cabinet member lying about being a solicitor, an mp beating up a constituent, and now this. Is pretty hard to imagine a worse start to a Government and we haven’t even had the clusterfuck of their second budget. Adults back in room 😂😂😂 -

What on earth is wrong with tax avoidance? -

Their anti corruption minister resigned after being accused of corruption, so it’s hardly a surprise. -

That depends on what she told the professional. We bought a property with an annex at the end of the garden. In those days you could get multiple dwellings relief and pretty much half your stamp duty. The separate building had to be self sufficient with a kitchen & bathroom. Ours only had bathroom, but I told solicitor it was self sufficient. Acting on that he advised us that we qualified for multiple dwellings relief. I’m sure he knew we didn’t, but that’s not the point. On the information I gave him, his advice was correct. -

Tax avoidance isn’t a crime, what do you think ISA’s are? Nobody should be forced from office for avoidance, it’s evasion that’s an offence. If this lot had to resign for incompetence or hypocrisy, Starmer & Rachel from complaints would have gone months ago… -

Fresh on the back of David Blunkett & Jack Straw another pinko is starting to get it. Starmers predecessor as DPP & former Lib Dem peer Ken Macdonald. The key is the 1951 UN Refugee Convention and its definition of what it takes to make a successful asylum application. This is the foundational problem. The definition in the Convention - that anyone with a well-founded fear of persecution is entitled to asylum - is too broad. That’s what has allowed the whole question of migration to get out of control. So millions of people are on the move who are, in reality, economic migrants, not entitled to settle in the UK. Yet they can plausibly claim that they face persecution at home and win asylum that way. If they are from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan or a host of other places, who is to say they would not have a well-founded fear of persecution if they return? In this way, economic migrants magically become refugees. Does Parliament have the authority set its own refugee rules? We can do anything. Parliament is sovereign. We have what's called a dualist system: international treaties don't become part of domestic law unless parliament approves them. So the Refugee Convention is not a part of our domestic law. We could leave it for a temporary period because we face a particular emergency. I've never thought it's an outrage to leave international treaties and conventions if they if they no longer work. -
It’s ridiculous. Webb is an absolute disaster as chief refereeing officer of PGMOL. It’s all about him. He’s chucked the VAR under the bus, because a load of half wits blame VAR, and he wants to placate them. The issue is the terrible state of referee’s performance not the VAR. As you say the referee could and should of stuck with the goal, it’s the tail wagging the dog. VAR, is what it says on the tin, an assistant. The referee is in charge and accountable , but it’s easier for Webb to blame the VAR

The blonde is about 4 or 5 pints, the other one would a niner, but she’s got a couple of redeeming features. I’d say 6 Pinter…. That’s not the point though, people need to be kept abreast of what Reform are doing locally….

Lego Proud of performance Guys we’re hungry most shots in league before today. Today was a platform. 6 points off top. He is well supported by ownership, amazing, speaks to Kevin and Patrick regularly.
-
Load of old pony. No wonder we’re in the shite and we have nods clapping relegated players, when you’ve got to happy clap players like Flynn Downes. If people can’t see he epitomises what’s been wrong with the club, then there’s no helping some people. He clearly doesn’t want to be here, lacks the real desire needed and the sooner we replace him the better.
-
Pundit not impressed with the cuddling at the end. One of the players saying they were brave.

Reform councillors making a massive difference locally. Well done, what a fine pair…

They’ve started well, no Lego ball yet. Cock up, incoming 😂😂

😂😂😂 You’re criticising him for exactly the same policy as Starmers…. I must have missed your “where to Sir Kier” post, or you’re post saying it’s unworkable. Sir Keir Starmer has promised that migrants arriving in the UK on small boats will be "detained and sent back" as the number crossing the English Channel remains at a record high. The prime minister is facing mounting pressure to show results on tackling Channel crossings and ending the use of asylum hotels, with small-scale protests outside the hotels continuing. Sir Keir said on X: "I am clear: we will not reward illegal entry. If you cross the Channel unlawfully, you will be detained and sent back." -

Is that their policy, because they went into the last election with this, that’s not like America. Perhaps you’d be kind enough to post their new policy you seem to have seen. The NHS, Health and Wellbeing Frontline NHS staff to pay zero basic rate of income tax for three years Use private healthcare capacity Give 20% tax relief to private healthcare providers Give NHS patients vouchers for private treatment if they do not receive NHS treatment in a certain time -
Who has said bin him off, how many people, two maybe, three?
-
And me, Weird that he’s ill so often, wasn’t there something around when he first signed or was going to sign. Don’t rate him as a player either, pound shop JWP. Gives the ball away too much, plays fucking sideways & backwards too much, gets booked for stupid headless reasons, and goes through the motions too many times. The fact a hard nosed manager who spent most of his career in Italy seemed to call him out, says it all. Soft as shite…Get rid and replace with a pirate to kick a few and protect the centre halves properly.

😂😂😂 Are we going to have this every time a better keeper makes a mistake. “See even Gordon Banks made mistakes, lay off Baz”….. The difference is, other keepers actually make saves to compensate for the occasional error. Baz’s repertoire is routine save, error and goal.
